Great business from Villa, buy a player cheap who has performed really well for us and helped get us into the Champions League again and then sold for a record British fee. If only every player bought could be sold for a huge profit.

Sigh.... Fuck off football.

People can try and cope all they like, this is fucking shit news.

It’s an interesting one, it’s not good news, but it’s one of those fork in the road moments. It’s a summer of upheaval, with our cup winners taken apart.

But being positive, we were very poor for large parts of last season and our strength in depth wasn’t there. This is a chance to improve aspects of the team. To improve and build a younger squad. I just hope we don’t waste this.

I guess we wait and see what we do next.

Given the option to swap Tielemans and Rogers for the 2 we've brought in, very few would've seen that as good business. We can look for the positives in it now it's happened, profit, younger age etc, but I reckon if someone suggested this a few weeks ago as a way to strengthen, they would've been told to see a doctor.

Doesn't send out a great message to players like Konsa who will surely be tempted if Arse want him now.

I thought the rebuild of the side that Unai TWICE got into the Champions League would happen gradually over the next couple of seasons. But it looks like it's going to happen a lot quicker than that.  I absolutely did not have Youri and Rogers going this window.

I hope we have some big arrivals in the next few weeks, as a season without arguably two of our best and most creative players from last season looks a little bleak right now.

What I will say, is that I trust Unai and his team to spend the money a bit better than we spent the Grealish money - but how much of it we actually CAN spend, I guess we don't really know...

Made great money but let's say we get MGW in to replace him. Forest absolutely hose us on the price. Same thing happened Newcastle last summer with Isak. We at least haven't let this drag out.

Not great for Emery with his two "sons" leaving, Tielemans I can get over but Rogers best days are ahead of him. Chelsea too.

Glad it hasn't dragged on to the end of the window, saw how Toon left it to the last minute selling Alexander Isak and then paying over the odds on the likes of Wissa at the last minute.

But we can’t keep going with what we have, and we need money to refresh the squad.

This deal makes perfect sense for us.

What we're not going to do is swap Youri and Rogers for two players of similar profile and known ability.  That's just not something we can afford to do.  Whether we can use the money to buy players who can become that good, and build a better team, who knows - I trust Unai and his team to give it a good go, though.

Every team loses its best players from time time, but losing two so quickly (and very unexpectedly in Youri's case) stings quite a bit.

I just hope we can give their replacements a bit of time to get up to speed and perform to the level we're all hoping they can reach.

Now over to Unai to find the NEXT Rogers...

Disappointed though not surprised. But its a hell of a sum for a player who doesn't always seem very interested or do much. He'll have to be better to justify that money where he's going though.

Time to find out if MGW has a release clause in the contract he signed last summer.  Interesting it was only 3 years, so he clearly had one eye on his exit when he signed it.  His last one had a £60m release clause, so there might be one, but a bit higher.

Rogers is still young, and with youth often comes inconsistency, which is what we’ve seen.

To be honest, we may be better off with a player who is more consistent, even if their top level is less.

So let’s see what else we do in the market. But that £102m is a godsend for us.

The transfer fee makes him the fifth most expensive player of all time.

I’m not even sure he’s been our fifth most important player (McGinn, Martinez, Kamara, Tielemans - then between Rogers and Watkins for fifth).

It’s up their with some of the oddest transfers… Gray to Wolves? Can’t think of a bigger head scratcher? Maybe Bent to us from Sunderland?

Good luck to him at Chelsea. If he starts the season the way he did last season, the Chelsea fans won't be so forgiving. They'll be shocked by how bad he can be.

We can put an end to SCR in one swoop & add some youth & mobility.

No way are we paying £70+ for Gibbs-White.
