I'd have liked a trophy too, but financially speaking, I think winning the League Cup might actually be worthless. £100,000 for the winner. I'd love to see a small team winning it because the prize money might actually do something for them. It wouldn't even pay a week's wages to one of our senior player for us.

If you were to get all away draws on your way to winning it, you wouldn't even have multiple match day revenues to make it worthwhile.

Obviously, as a fan, I don't look at it that way. But honestly the way we went out of it was more disappointing to me than the fact we went out.

The financial upside is of no real interest to be honest. I don't imagine that the FA Cup brings in much cash either in the grand scheme of things, but there aren't many Villa fans who wouldn't want to win it, just because it's not financially that lucrative.

We will make full use of the break and I am sure it will help. But I can guarantee that Emery didn’t expect us to lose at home to Everton and wanted to remain in all 4 competitions. We’ve won fuck all for ages and are in no position to be turning our noses up at any trophy opportunity.

I said it at the time, we put out a stronger side against Everton than we did the week before against Legia Warsaw. That's why it was so disappointing that we lost. Players didn't step up. The manager sent out a team that was capable of winning it.

I think the Carabao would have been a bridge too far, glad to be out of it , winning it is fairly pointless

I’ll tell you what’s pointless winning nothing for 28 years
what i meant was the prize for winning it - entry into the Conference League again is a bit pointless.
I'm more than happy we are focusing on the Conference (gets you Europa) and top 4 (gets you ECL), those will help promote the club and attract even better players

10 players and Robin Olsen.

We wouldn't have lost that game with Emi in goal. He won't make that mistake again, giving anything more than one start to Olsen unforced is Emery’s only black mark so far.

We were very flat that evening. It was weird because the team sent out was more than capable of winning. It happens. It’s shit. Good teams lose games. But it was odd how poorly we played given how well we had been.

It was Olsen's fault everyone else was shit, was it?

Olsen’s more often than not always shit
He is a total and absolute liability the only games he gets through unscathed are the ones where he has very little to do

Luiz performance summed it up.

Tielemans aswell basically just sending Calvert Lewin through on goal with a terrible pass. Why he wasn't close to starting a prem game around that time although he's closer now with his performances in our euro games.

Mentality wasn't there on the night, certainly not when we went 1 down and had to chase the game.

What days did the boys get off work this week - Monday and Thursday? Cheeky half-day Friday, Unai's a fair man.

Judging from comments after the Brighton and Luton games, the oppo analysis seems to happen late-on, the day before/morning of a game or is that just when we've played a Thursday night game?

I agree, Forest will be up for this one though missing Chris Wood at CF . Depends how early Villa can get control and if Olly scores more than he misses

No, it was his fault he was shit, thwacking another scuffed pass to their forward leading to the first and offering the impediment of a single cricket stump to Calvert Lewin running through.

You can tell that the whole mindset of the team is different when Olsen is playing. The defence don't seem to have any faith in him, so the psyche of the team from the word go is very different. It'd be like having a  cart horse like Ben Mee in defence instead of Torres, or Scott Hogan up front instead of Watkins. A key part of what makes us good is missing, and in Olsen the replacement is massively inferior to the first teamer.
