After the Legia match, I think I'm more comfortable with Olsen starting than Chambers.

There was an incident fairly early in the Chelsea game where they broke and put in a deep cross from their right, and Cash has made up the ground at the back post, was first to the cross, and cushioned a header back to Martinez. Chambers wouldn't have been in the frame of the telly as the ball hit the net.

Olsen is fine as long as you’re playing a team who are not very good, don’t create much chances and he doesn’t have many saves to make
Everton might fit the bill

I'm not sure what all the panic is about . Everton are not risking many first team players when they have a massive game v Luton on Saturday

Pretty sure this is this is the first time we've played them in the League Cup since we were cheated in the '84 semi-final.

We have to win it in my life time, because like most I have not seen us win it but old enough to know that we had won it more times than any one else for a large part of our history.
Its a shame that it has now been so badly degraded.

I asked my 13 year old, England winning the WC or Villa winning FA Cup, he was bemused by the question and my stance that its not even a proper thought process for me. Villa and the FA Cup every single time.

Surely it's not even a question. Villa winning a competitive fixture over that.

Villa winning a free kick over that.

Probably because you're insistent that we've nothing to worry about.

2nd choice side as it stands now is probably: Olsen, Chambers, Carlos, Lenglet, Moreno, Bailey, Dendoncker, Tielemans, Ramsey, ??, Duran.

Will be interesting to see how many of those start tomorrow night.  I guess Zaniolo could do with some more game time, so could fill the ?? position.

He looked absolutely knackered when running

Yep anyone 30 or under can’t remember Villa winning anything ever

So sacking cups off for whatever reason is just a nonsense
Plus the fact you’re trying to finish as high in the league as possible to enter into cup competitions
We hopefully take it seriously, about time we give the young supporters something to cheer about

I don't mind rotating a few players for this but I really wish he'd play Martinez. Does he really need a rest at this point? I suppose the argument is that Olsen needs game time but I'd rather just constantly play Martinez and hope we never need to play Olsen ever.
With Olsen as back up we can not afford to risk Martinez.

Who can play Left Back?

Lenglet I guess, or Torres, but neither should be passing the half way line. We have to give Digne a breather. Don't think Chambers will be as bad at RCB with Cash outside him.

I thought Olsen did perfectly fine the couple of games he's played this season. If the defence is solid he's fine. And of all the competitions we could potentially rest Martinez for, this is the one I'd prefer.

That said, Martinez had a couple of games off at the start of the season so he probably doesn't need the break just yet.

The problem is that the presence of Olsen stops the defence from being solid because they don't have confidence in him.

People keep saying that like it's a publicly acknowledged fact. Defence was shit against Legia and it had nothing to do with the keeper. The games Olsen did play the defence was solid and we conceded very little.

Granted Burnley were/are very poor but I thought Olsen spread panic even in that game with his daft decision making. Ran out missed a cross and Jay Rodriguez missed an open goal. Martinez didn't have a great game in Warsaw but was back to his very best at Chelsea.

I still say it, it's absolutely ridiculous for a team and club with designs on consistently playing in Europe,  and the 50+ games that brings, that we have Olsen and Chambers as our backups for Martinez and Cash.
