In the reporting of the defeat of the saintly, blessed Brighton by AEK Athens, I was surprised to hear the away team pronounced “ike Athens”. I’ve always considered it “A-E-K”.

Similar thing with PAOK recently as “Powk”.

Has the pronunciation convention for Greek teams changed recently?

When living in Greece, I'm pretty sure alot of people referred to them as 'powk'. I may be completely wrong of course. They're like the Millwall of the Agean.

PAOK are nutters. I remember a couple of bits of graffiti when I was over in Salonica tagged with the club letters: 'niki i thanatos' (victory or death) was a charmer, as was 'Aris einai theos' - 'Ares is Lord'. Significant shortages of chill in the Macedon region, it seems.

Mrs. Exeter's sister-in-law is from Thessaloniki and her family are Aris fans. They think PAOK supporters are psychopaths but when I went over there the PAOK fans were much more interesting to talk to about football.

Daly, starting up top, gets a goal chalked off for an offside you don't see often this days. She met a corner with a bullet header, but in the time it took to reach her head the Scottish defenders had taken a pace off their line and caught Kelly offside standing in front of the goalkeeper. Still goalless.

SHA v QPR on the bar I’m in.

What the fuck is wrong with their stadium?
Their pitch is awful

There was a BCFC REDDITCH flag in the stand. I thought only pure Brummies supported them and places like Redditch were basically abroad.

Flurry of goals at the end of the first half, 2-1 England lead. Daly with the assist for England's second (although Scotland had a clear penalty not given seconds earlier), and our own Kirsty Hanson with Scotland's reply.

The Away Days page on Facebook was full of them going on about how in Warsaw there were numerous Tamworth Villa flags and only two actually from Brum. Then there was the arsehole claiming 75% of us live outside Brum.  We worry about winning games, they worry about where they and we live.

Thought I'd stick the Blues game on. One side of the ground  resembles a building site. I'm almost expecting to spot  Dennis, Oz and Neville watching the game from there. I didnt realise it was that bad.

Quite like the look of the lad Stansfield they have on loan from Fulham. They must be gutted he's not theirs to flog.

Wouldn't it be lovely for Uncle Albert to grab a winner.
