As Shankly once said “you get rid of him when he has one season left in him”. What might his value be worth in 12 months time.

Say what you like about Liverpool in 1970s and 80s and ManU 90s and 00's but they knew when a player's time was up and it didn't matter who it was, they were moved on.

Quite sanguine about this. Undoubtedly one of our best players, would liked to him to have stayed. You have to play the circumstances in front of you. With the time missed this swason with muscle injuries, what does that do to vakues next season with 1 year left and if he's not willing to extend?

Sometimes you have to take your medicine. £35m pure profit and £8m p/a in wages gives us £43m and the chance to renew the squad in our strongest position.

I bet the forums were in meltdown when we lost Gray and Little within a year of each other.

It's worse because it's for those shower of wankers and I hate the look of any of our former players in their plastic kit BUT it's time to evolve the team and sometimes that includes some of your stalwarts.

The volley will always be remembered. Onwards we go.

Tielemans has been a terrific player for us (though if I was nit picking, I'd say he's looked fairly pedestrian in amongst the big boys at the WC), and has been great to watch.

Another year at least would have been ideal, so the timing (not to mention the destination) is not brilliant.

But on the brighter side, we're getting a decent chunk of cash for him with which Unai can build. Let's just hope Manzambi can make the step up swiftly.

Maybe not a big boy but he won the game for Belgium against Senegal after being 2-0 down.

Ha!  Ironically, when you consider who left in that period, the one that my mate's dad was most incensed about was Chris Nicholl.  Not only hom going, but replacing him with part of the Everton defence that we beat in the League Cup final.  He was still going on about it when McNaught was a European Cup winner!

Maybe I am old school but the club I hate more than any other -including small heath - is that lot.

Any villa player who swaps our colours for theirs is tainted for me.

Literally, anywhere but them. Since 1992-93 I have absolutely despised them and how pivotal that title race was for the fortunes of both clubs.

I remember Tanswell saying to Bardell a few weeks ago that if Tielemans doesn't sign the new contract then he will most likely be sold. Bardell wasn't having it.

Do you think he'll fit at Man U?  Stylistically closer to Mainoo that Casemiro, so probably not the player they need.

There seems to be a misunderstanding regarding this sales impact in our P&L, it does not matter when we receive the money or how long his contract has left the whole fee will be 100% profit.

I do know that seeing him in that shirt is going to bring up some sick into my mouth.

Under the new rules, isn't income from sales spread over three accounting periods (cant remember if calendar or each season)?

I think it is, but whichever way, it is pure profit on the fee transfer.

God it is going to be bad to see him pulling the strings for United, but came for nothing, after a shaky start got his career back together and became genuinely one of our most reliable, creative, versatile and cherished players. Scored a goal that will be etched in all our memories against Freiburg and goes with hugely happy memories.

It is going to be horrible to see him in that shirt, but like with Luca, he value is only going to go down, his wages are big and his injuries are continuously meaning he misses a lot of games. Feels like the Europa was a watershed moment, I hope it was not the top of the mountain. Next 12-18 months are critical.

Was gutted earlier but now I’ve zoomed out a bit I’m less sad about it.

I remember being worried when we sold Doug, and that turned out ok. Youri was excellent for us but it may be that he was already on the turn and Unai knew it.

Expect him to flop miserably post-Villa, like pretty much every player we’ve sold during the Emery era (bar Malen).
