Exactly, for the big signings whilst they can spread the cost over a number of years (5 max if in Europe), those costs are locked in (absent any sales - which may cause issues by crystallising losses). The trick of selling the youth players for tens of millions can only get you so far.

...or a Havertz type sale, where most of the purchase price had already been written down but they still got back what they paid for him

Sounds like that's it.

Disappointing if Coutinho is leaving. Overall a good window, but do think we’re light up top.

it's a lot of wages off the wage bill for a bit-part player. It makes sense.

It's a lean squad but we can mitigate some of the potential fatigue by getting out of the cups early.  We've been done a dirty by not getting Man U away in the third round, but even so we can hope for them in the next round.

We see off games against inferior opposition at walking pace, we should be okay. We followed up our opening day defeat with four training games.

I know it's been said 100s of times already...but I really can't believe we have retained Olsen as second choice for this season. He is genuinely awful. Aside from that
- without Mings we have a real lack of pace in our other LCB options, great to see Carlos do so well v Burnley, worried a bit about Torres and don't agree with Lenglet signing
- don't see an obvious challenger for McGinn and Ramsey for those midfield spots on the sides, was hoping A Ramsey could have been one but Emery clearly doesn't agree. Tielemans has had a slow start in his cameos and needs to improve. Good to get the Donk back involved, he has his uses
- Duran as backup to Watkins seems a serious gamble and a bit reckless in truth. Again Emery obviously didn't rate Archer highly
- Diaby looks a big addition, lot more direct than Bailey. Even when not going well he looks dangerous so far and quick
- Zaniolo - nice touches on his debut anyway but was hoping for big things from Buendia this year, he's definitely a loss

Felix to Barca
Johnson to Spurs

I'm pretty sure we're done.

Ferran Torres to us, loan with an option. He’ll be further down the pecking order with the arrival of Felix?

For the first time in a long time, I trust the manager is doing what he wants and feels he needs.

Emery is in full control of this, and if he is happy with what we are doing then that's good enough for me.

You’re a harsh task master Bronte. Even in praising Diaby you reference “even when not doing well” - he’s got two goals and an assist in 3 Premier League starts!

Once Ramsey and Moreno are back the squad depth will look much better.

Brennan Johnson to Spurs - damn.

Yeah think we might regret that one (if we were seriously in the race to sign him) as I think he is quality.  Think the way we play would have suited him perfectly and although he would have been back up to Watkins to begin with, I think he has potentially got a higher ceiling than him.

Signing him would have made it a very good transfer window.
