I have a feeling we won't do any more business, or if we do it will be with one of those bigger named players we were linked with earlier that turned us down but haven't moved anywhere else yet. One last hurrah to close the window.

Struggling to think of anyone who is both better than Ollie and available.

without shelling out 50m+. That Balogun from Arsenal appears to moving from that price which is steep.

If someone better than Ollie were available for £50m I imagine we'd be all over it.

Champions League teams tend to snaffle those types so good chance we would be blown out of the water.

Watkins has scored 46 goals in 119 games for us, which is a goal around every 2.5 games. That is an extremely good return and as he is now playing in a successful attacking team, rather than a boring Gerrard one, then his stats should continue to go up. I can't see how we could better atm and if we were to sell him there would be a host of top sides looking to buy him.

Think we'll see at least one utility-type player to cover right back or right mid (thought Tyler Adams was ideal for this) and maybe a leftback, depending on the LD situation.

But after that, we're done.

Any one from Watkins, Zaniolo and Duran up top suggests to me a forward won't be a massive priority.

I must confess to not knowing too much about Zaniolo - can he play as a striker?  He's playing as a 'number 10' or wide in the footage I have seen.  Not sure if Diaby could play in that role either.

I think it could be a left-back to replace Digne if he goes (or it will be a left-back and then Digne will be off) and that will be it.

Emery has made no secret that he expects more in, Monchi said as much before Zaniolo. I reckon there's a couple more yet.

I'm assuming one of them was Acuña.

I’d guess a versatile defender and another forward who can play wide still to come yet.

I must admit; I think Taiwo Awoniyi at Forrest would be a useful addition. He’ll be more expensive in the future I reckon.

I've thought the same but they'd (rightly) probably want too much now, but it does show that these players are out there, what  he cost last summer would be a very reasonable amount to spend on a backup for Ollie who could push him a bit.

I agree, we are short of where we need to be, a situation obviously impacted by the two horrific injuries we’ve suffered.

I think we’ll do more.

I can’t believe, for example, that we would sell archer and not replace him.

We're really not. Konsa & Chambers can cover RB, and Duran, Diaby, Bailey, or Zaniolo can cover centre forward if needed. I know Olsen isn't the best keeper we've ever had or anything, but realistically he isn't going to play much, and very few teams in the league have a significantly better backup keeper anyway.

Not to say that bringing in a couple more players wouldn't be handy, but we're at a stage where I'd be  comfortable going in to the first half of the season as we are, and only spending more if it suited us ... either because a player's available for less than they might otherwise be, or we can attract a player who maybe wouldn't have considered a move earlier in the summer.

We are short.  This is the Villa way.

I think we definitely need another striker with Archer going.

I'd like another right-back and a better reserve keeper, and would definitely feel happier if we had them. But I wouldn't be devestated if we didn't get them.
