Vague link to an Italian AM/FW. Nicolo Zaniolo.

Been linked a few times over the summer. He was the next big thing in Italian football a few years back but then did his ACL, recovered and did it again within weeks. He went to Turkey in January and has apparently been excellent and looked fit. I'd be ok with him for a small fee, anything more than about £15m is too big a risk thoigh.

I think people overstate the selling of home grown players for FFP.  If we sold McGinn, Luiz, Mings, Konsa, Cash or Kamara their purchase costs will have already been fully amortized.  If we sold Watkins the amount left is pretty minimal in comparison to what we'd get.

In any case, our net spend is pretty low in PL terms over the last 2-3 seasons.  I don't see how we would be anywhere near FFP thresholds.  I don't see why we need to do financial gymnastics with the likes of Ramsey or Archer for FFP reasons.

I think the FFP concerns we might have will be to do with wages.  Our wage bill more or less matches last seasons league position, but most other teams in that part of the league have far, far higher commercial income than we do.

Yes, if we sold some of our best players, we'd make a profit on them. If we sell home produced players, especially ones who are not getting near our first team, it's total profit at little impact to the squad.

I think it would be £25m for Archer + Add-Ons + Buy-back clause.
Can we really say that and then baulk at £15m more for Brenan Johnson?

Maybe there is truth in the Cam rumours

Fabrizio Romano tweet
Understand Aston Villa are working on deal to sign Nicoló Zaniolo. It’s concrete possibility being discussed, one of the top names in the list 🚨🟣🔵 #AVFC

Villa director Monchi signed Zaniolo at Roma from Inter and negotiations will follow with Galatasaray.

2x ACL and a smattering of other injuries. Risky signing

It would be total profit or close to it for the majority of our squad.  The home produced thing is a red herring really.

At 6'3" and playing as an attacking midfielder, Zaniolo, could/would be a good option.

Though it doesn't strike me that if he signs (or is even being considered) it is linked to Archer being sold. It only makes sense, to me, if Buendia is injured or Coutinho is being sold.

I want Archer to score boat loads for the Villa, though he is still, to an extent, unproven and it is a risk to go into the season with Watkins, Archer, and Duran. UTV.

Zanilo 6ft 3?  Would be nice to sign someone who can play Willy Wonka rather than one of the Umpa Lumpas at the Christmas party.

Plus if Ramsey is good at Burnley, but not quite good enough to still get in our squad, we buy him back and flog him at a profit for a further nibble at FFP or we make Burnley buy out the clause.

I read somewhere that Hugh Grant is playing an Oompha Loompha in a new Wonka film, unless I dreamt it.

Zaniolo is another player with European experience; he's played in different countries with clubs who have high expectation levels and the pressure that comes with it.

Makes a lot of sense to me.
