West Ham kind of struggled a bit last year balancing Europe and the league. Now they have to make the step up again from Conference to Europa and they've only bought 2 players, to essentially replace 1.

Last time they were in the Europa League they got to the semi-finals and finished seventh in the league.

If we're going on precedent, they find their league seasons easier when in the Europa than the Conference league.

They'll probably bomb, but I don't think that which European competition they're playing in will have anything to do with it.

If MON was still our manager, we'd have signed Maguire and JWP

I thought John Gregory too, but yep.

You're both right! From 'Other football':

Double deal for West Ham today it appears with Ward Prowse and Maguire joining them for a combined outlay of around £60m.

They look like very John Gergory/MON signings to me. Fine up to a point, but big wages and no resale value.

I think Maguire quite suits WHAM!, personally.

Nah, he'd look crap in the music videos next to George or even Andrew.

Wham are also linked to a DM from ajax so Moyes hasnt completely got his way. They’re desperate for a striker too so I doubt they’re finished (no idea who).

Fair point. Arguably there's stronger opposition in the Europa League than in Conference, so the games should be tougher and leave less room for rotation. On the other hand there's potentially a lot less travel involved in Europa League, which may prove beneficial in itself.

I just think last season they struggled, and over the summer they've lost their best player, only just signed 2 players a matter of days before the season starts, and there's rumblings of behind the scenes strife too. So yeah, I think all things considered they'll find it more difficult this season.

Although they could be finished in Europe by Christmas which would make the second half of the season a lot easier to navigate.

They paid £30m, with £5m of add-ons that I think it's safe to assume they didn't end up paying.

They paid about £30m for him so they've basically got their money back

I hope this shows that Birmingham World indulges in rubbish as much as Insider, Fancast et al. Would Tyler Adams really be an upgrade on Luiz?! https://www.birminghamworld.uk/sport/football/aston-villa/aston-villa-make-decision-on-midfielder-with-transfer-on-the-verge-of-being-sealed-4248587

Genuinely can’t recall last time I read anything as detached from reality as this, and I’m including novels in that.

It’s claimed Tottenham would be interested in Luiz, who finds himself slipping down the pecking order at Villa Park amid increasing competition.
