Johnson does tick a lot of the boxes for what we need but I'm not completely convinced he's ready for the step up to the top half of the league so the price might be a touch too high, £30-35m seems more realistic to me.

That sounds to me a bit like the Doug / Robbie Keane scenario.

Just pay it and be done with it :-)

£40m and Olsen

Ha, they need a keeper as well. Surely we could deep fake Olsen's head on footage of Martinez and send it over?

Turkish giants Fenerbahce have made an offer for Aston Villa winger Jaden Philogene, and TEAMtalk understands the bid has been rejected

For me, £15m with a buy-back clause

Yeah, get him in. Looks perfect for what we need.

Johnson rumours getting louder. I think he'd be a great signing, exactly what we need

I like him. And he has bags of pace. Clocked as the fastest in the Prem last term...

On a side note, Pau Torres is pretty fast too. Was clocked as the 5th fastest player in La Liga in 2021 apparently...

You're joking right?

Would have to be £20m plus Olsen... 😂

I get slightly troubled when we get linked to players from the Belgian league, and to a lesser extent the German league too.

Our last few forays into Belgium yielded Nakamba, Wesley and Samatta. Of those only Nakamba offered anything, and the other two are among our worst ever strikers.

The underwhelming impact of Bailey at Villa and Sancho at Man Utd is a concern when looking at wingers ripping it up in Germany.

Now I probably need to relax and trust in Emery and Monchi, but I wont be getting excited about signings from those leagues until I see them perform on the pitch for us.

Benteke did ok...Son came from the Bundesliga....The PL is certainly more physical, think Sancho and Bailey have struggled with the physicality (both seem to suffer from a crippling lack of self belief too).

Johnson does seem ideal for that high on the right role next to Watkins. To be fair I didn't see much of Forest last season and when I did they were awful. He does bring genuine pace and directness too, which we need.

I'm sure that was the joke and how much are you valuing Olsen at?

The Daily Heil writer who 'broke' the Johnson wouldn't mind coming to Villa has a Twitter bio that includes 'Mark Clattenburg's biographer'. The mind boggles. Who'd want to write it, who'd want to read it, and who the fuck would pay to publish it?

Edit. Just realised that all three questions have the same answer: Mark Clattenburg.

That makes me think of Jeff Winter, former ref, and the most deluded man in football. From his autobiography, re his last match, refereeing Liverpool - Blackburn with Liverpool needing to win to qualify for the Champions League.

Quote
“in the end I played a few extra minutes , waiting untill play was at the kop end before sounding the final shrill blast , a bit like the last post , the fans behind the goal burst in to spontaneous applause it was longer and louder than normal even for a big home win , DID THEY KNOW IT WAS MY FINAL VISIT , WAS THE APPLAUSE FOR ME , they are such knowledgeable football people that it would not surprise me”

Always had a very high opinion of himself, Jeff.

Oh dear.  That is cringeworthy in the extreme and on many levels.

Johnson’s an exact fit for Bailey’s current position but possibly doesn’t have the ceiling of some of the players we’ve been linked with. On the plus side, he’s a lot less likely to completely flop having already done well in the league.

Let’s just hope they don’t ask stupid money.

I’ve seen him play for Wales a bit and he is striker who can play wide if needed.  He’s actually probably a bit like Ollie Watkins, but hasn’t quite got the same physical attributes.  Plays more on the shoulder of defenders waiting to be played in.

60m and Olsen, then I reckon we've done well in the deal.
