I know we scored from playing out from the back, but we overdid it today especially against 10, when we didn't really look like we had an extra player. It's not so much playing out like that, but the default seems to be to go back too often when there is scope for going forward, which is where we are better.

I know this may sound churlish after a win, but it wasn't a good watch against a team who were low on confidence.

They didn’t have a shot on goal and had 5 touches in our box. Sure, we could’ve been better in the final third but that’ll come with recruitment in the summer.

Kamara is our field general and when he had to be pulled our direction and composure was thrown off. I thought Chambers was good enough in his cameo both going forward and dropping back.

I thought that was about as flat as a Villa Park win can be. Obviously glad we won, but that aside not much worth celebrating today.

Thought we looked short of quality and ideas. Both Cash and Moreno got into promising positions a few times and checked back. Missing a spark.

McGinn the highlight . Palace created very little either, apart from the marginal offside.

History books say 1-0 though so hey ho.

A few things, it’s March and we won, playing against 10 men and we won and lastly, Zaha was playing and we won.

I’ll take that.

Palace aren't the mugs some seem to think they are. Last 7 games they've only lost to us and Man Utd. The 5 draws were all against sides in the top 9.

Didn't know that, but I'm surprised by it.

I thought they were shockingly bad.

I still want us to have more of the ball and get into the penalty area more often and take shots. We simply don’t do that enough. Of course I’m delighted with the win despite not being overly convincing and still too careless on and off the ball.

Two clean sheets in a row as well, which is good given the defensive record before that.

Agreed, that was the worst team we have played this season. Both their full backs were rubbish and
they had nothing at all in midfield. Indisciplined too.

Did we pass the ball backwards more times than forwards today ?

Appears over-coaching to a degree is stifling our attacking prowess.

They were pretty dire, especially through midfield. But I thought their left back (no 3, don’t know his name) played ok.

I thought it was more the complete lack of movement from the four attacking players though there is a habit to over complicate. The two are probably related. Very frustrating to watch.

I'd take that over the total shit show that came before. That game against leeds away was the low point of Gerrard's time, we looked completely clueless

Our final third needs to improve, no question. At the same token, we are passing circles around defenders in the midfield at times. Confidence on the ball has certainly approved and pair it with two clean sheets on the bounce, I can’t complain.

We’re going to buy a 60m winger in the summer and it’s going to be fantastic.
