I wonder if it's just the state of the market when it comes to strikers. We had lots of arguments on here last summer about a replacement for Watkins and the main point against replacing him was who are you going to get that's better but isn't costing an arm and a leg?

If you want an experienced, top class striker, it's going to cost a lot of money. So even for someone who isn't a world beater, but has a proven goal scoring record, it's still going to cost a fair bit, even if he is 30+.

The same goes for young with a lot of potential. It will cost you, but it's probably seen as more of a gamble.

It is, of course, also possible that West Ham are mugs and other clubs see them coming a mile off.

You do wonder if West Ham are involved in some elaborate 'Brewsters Millions' type game where they have to waste cash on aging players.

A lot of their fans are loving it too, not only because they got a cheaper player with a half decent goal contributions to game ratio for both club & country, but because they think that they got one over on Villa too.

Some of them appear quite bitter at us over their lack of signing Duran, with only a few laying blame where it actually falls, which is on that rancid little porno c**t for being too cheap to pay for a decent young striker with potential that fits with their managers style of play, & ending up with an old player who will be half useless in 18 months time, IF he settles in England at all, with no sell on value, leaving them right back in the same position as they are right now.

Needing to pay Ł30M+ for a half decent striker, after just wasting millions on yet another old stand in. Its that false economy thing.

It always seems like they pay for an Ikea flat-pack wardrobe every few years instead of paying for a solid wood piece in the first place...

The Peterborough chairman said 4 weeks back on the wireless that they'll flirt with Toney, then try for Duran, then buy an over priced player from the continent that won't do what they were looking for to save a few quid. Seems he knows Sullivan well.

Yeah I heard him say something like that and I chuckled to myself
Looks like he was right

What about Duran coming on in the 87th against West Ham in about 12 days from now and then scoring the winner and then to go on the round of honours and kissing our badge  :)

Is that the Irish lad, Darragh MacAnthony? He's been on Talksport over the summer, spoke a fair bit of sense.

If he’s still with us against West Ham he’s got to get some minutes he’ll Defo score because that sort of thing that happens

I would see Duran as the type that would want to show WHAM! that he was worth what they wouldn't pay by smashing one in.

I could also see him smashing the stadium or a player, too.

Scores the winner, makes the cross at the WH fans, twats their new striker, gets sent off, sold to Borussia Mönchengladbach before the next game.

He'd be a legend.

If WH  don’t mind going for an older player why didn’t they go for Toney, apparently his price is dropping to reasonable amounts

It's true that Jermain was a great young striker at the Hammers but I wouldn't worry, he retired quite a while ago now.

They've still got Paquetta there, don't they? Too high risk to have both of them in the squad.

Seriously though, I think Ł50mil was the last I heard they wanted for Toney, which is still a lot, especially considering he's potentially going to be free next summer.

Fullkrug instead of Duran is a really strange choice given the respective prices.

Duran is raw, unpredictable chaos, capable of the brilliant and the farcical and everything in between but, with coaching and maturity he could become something special.
Fullkrug is pretty much at the exact opposite end of the scale, he's solid, predictable and consistent, get balls into him in the box and he'll get shots and headers away, get the ball in to his feet and he'll find a teammate.

It's not that either style is better or worse, I just can't quite work out how you go for the first and then change you're mind and flip into the complete opposite.

It's easy when your primary concern is price above fit.
