Just home from the game.  That game has to go in the Hall of Shame with the others that have been inflicted on us by the team we support. The big difference about that one compared with Doncaster, Wycombe, Port Vale and the rest is that that game was tossed away with an arrogance that had to be seen to be believed.

100% agreed Brian. Arrogance was the word I used whilst watching at 1 0 up.

I think it was the manner of our goal - which was a very good one with a bit of showboating - that made us more arrogant.

I'm still a bit confused about the red card. I thought it was only a yellow these days if a penalty was awarded?

Unless he was sent off for the shirt pull (which was outside the box) and the penalty was for the lunge tackle thing?

A Cov player got sent off on Saturday for saving a shot with his hand, I too thought that 'double jeopardy' thing had stopped that, though I'm unsure about any fucking rule these days.

I dread to think of what this site would have been like today had Gerrard been manager yesterday - I think the current manager is getting off relatively lightly as his "in game management" was woeful - as poor as anything Slippy G presided over - in fact he was sacked for less
I have witnessed many poorer performances during my 60+ years of supporting the Villa but not felt this utterly embarrassed at being humiliated at home by a lower league side.
As for the post match statement - isn't that what he is paid for - i.e. motivation

I don't think the two starting 11s for the cup games were right, but as a new manager he has to see what he's got. 6 months in and it would be a different conversation. 12 months in and he'd get as much blame as the players.

I feel so sorry for the young Villa fans (some of whom would have been "treated" to a game at Villa Park, which is prohibitively expensive now for so many, possibly for the first time in a while) and will be today suffering the taunts of all and sundry. Some of the youngsters will be thinking they'd rather claim allegiance to one of the self styled big six after that disgraceful performance.

This is so true, there was loads of young kids and proud Dads in the Holte last night, taking photos and videos etc.  I noticed before the game and it really made me smile.  They must be gutted how it turned out.

Yeah I wouldn’t get too worked up about blaming the manager after 6 games, especially one who has demonstrated he’s bloody good. He’ll be acutely aware yesterday was piss poor.

Failing to beat a 4th tier team at home  whilst fielding a side of 11 Internationals is grim whichever way you look at it - they got what they deserved and that has to be down to the Manager/Coach
He failed to "read the game" well enough and therefore make positive changes to unlock a strong/physical but limited team.  i don`t always agree with Dion Dublin but he read it right  - early in the game when he pointed to our lack of pace and speed of delivery . We changed it once and scored - then reverted to type

Yes but I doubt he sent them out saying play slowly and show no urgency. Now clearly you want the manager to address that if it’s happening, but sometimes within a single game it’s hard. The flip side is we shouldn’t over praise his tactical tweaks in other games that have resulted in positive outcomes. The point is it’s very early days and he’s done enough in his career to be trusted.

The first halves against Spurs and Liverpool were pretty shit as well. We've definitely been a second half team under Emery since the break. Well, until yesterday, that is.
