Oh, and when we were relegated to the (as it then was) third division in 1969/70, it was Preston who went down with us.

Well Son found his shooting boots today, but can he do it in the league, only scored once in his last 12 games in the Prem.

Championship seems even closer than normal.

Twelve points separating second from third, then eight points separating third and sixteenth.

Obviously thrilled that it's nothing to do with us anymore but it's a hell of a league.

It throws up far more interesting results than the premier league. And the 46 game season makes it as unpredictable as the grand national. A brilliant league but best observed from afar.

I enjoyed it for all those reasons, but also because its what made me remember what it's like going in to every game thinking we could win.

Agreed Drummond. The flip side was also knowing we could come a cropper in random games like Wigan. And Millwall. And Cardiff. And Reading. And Bristol City.

Fully agreed, it's pretty much the only football I watch as a neutral. Far more entertaining and unpredictable than the PL, with good overall quality but also enough rubbish to guarantee entertaining balls-ups.

Less media wankery as well over their favourite clubs/players.

I don't miss being there, but as a spectacle it's my favourite division.
