I dont fully understand why you would go to chelsea.  Unless they chuck money we coudlnt offer which seems unlikely - why would you do it.

Ron Saunders ripped apart a successful team and created something better. At least I am trying to convince myself that that is what happened.

As I've said on another thread, whilst this undeniably true, it should also be served with a healthy dollop of hindsight.  As late as the end of the 79/80 season there was much chuntering about the break-up of the most entertaining Villa team many had watched and the selling of certain players - not helped by Andy Gray scoring the winner in Wolves' League Cup final victory and us also finishing below them in the league.   I remember mates being completely underwhelmed with that summer's purchase of Peter Withe.

Having said that, fast forward to now and I'm of the opinion that Emery will build a better team.  It might not bed-in immediately, but over the course of next season it will be flying.

The wheels seem to be falling off at St James Park.

Isaak went last summer and they had to sell Elliott to balance the books

I have real sympathy for the Geordie supporters who see their club bring pillaged by the Sky clubs. Joking aside, they're a much better bunch and we gave much more in common with them than wuth the glory hunting plastics who folllw the Greedy6.

Like us, the Toon has a big ground, a loyal fanbase, wealthy owners and ambition; but are hamstrung by the regulations.

Unfortunately their management team - from boardroom to coaching and recruitment haven't been up to the mark.

Unai turning them down in Nov 21 and then saying yes to Villa in Oct 22 seems to have been the ultimate Sliding Doors moment for both clubs.

We are so, so lucky.

Pity some fans are unable to realise it.

The biggest issue Newcastle have is that it is in Newcastle. It is bloody miles away from where these footballers want to spend their wealth.

I do feel sorry for them (a bit) but Howe i always felt was managing above his level and Tindall is a twat. We should be grateful of the rules to an extent as without them PIF would have taken transfer spend to another level and even though Newcastle is far away they could of attracted anyone with ridiculous wages

Howe seemed to be unable to manage in seasons where they had to compete in Europe and domestically, whereas Unsi's been doing so for years and fully understands the stresses and strains it places on players and the coaching side.

Wonder if he'll take some time off and return as understud to Tuchel before taking over from him after England's next inevitable failure?

PIF have been stymied by the Greedy6 who saw the tidal wave of petro-dollars heading to Tyneside as a real threat and scrambled to shore up their positions by introducing PSR/SCR etc. in order to prevent aspiring clubs with money, such as Villa and Toon dislodge them from their near monopoly at the top table.

That's why retaining Unai as our manager is so vital.  We need regular Champions League football to grow sufficiently to mount a long term challenge and he's the man who's git us there and will (we all hope) keep us there.

First of all FFP-PSR was voted in 2013 which was objected to by us and Citeh (and a couple of lower clubs) and voted for by Newcastle. PIF didn't buy newcastle until 2021 so I'm not sure how the big clubs did it to stop PIF (although was probably targetted at Citeh).

FFP-SCR was voted for by all but Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Leeds. So PIF voted for SCR along with ourselves.

Yep and I guess they are still seen as a 'status' club amongst some players and something that helps them fit in with certain cliques at England get togethers etc.

They were and originally voted for by all but Newcastle. So the "Greedy 6 19" got together to fuck over Newcastle. When it came back to voting the changes, 16 other teams voted for them with Villa, Citeh, Newcastle and Forest voting against. So is that the Greedy 5 or Greedy 16 voting against aspiring clubs with money such as Citeh?
