Quote
It is difficult to gauge where Aston Villa doubly qualifying for the Champions League would sit on a list of all-time Premier League achievements. But it is a remarkable – if not Manager of the Year-shortlist-worthy – accomplishment.

What felt agonisingly precarious a fortnight ago has been fashioned into an almost perfect sprint to the finish of a marathon season. The Burnley draw notwithstanding, Emery has gambled with the highest stakes imaginable to secure a top-five place and European final for his team.

The group of clubs and managers who have qualified for European competition through league position in four consecutive Premier League seasons is miniscule. Emery and Villa taking their place among them, especially in the circumstances, is ludicrous.

When you listen to something like this, and you know there will always be the chance one day he will be tempted away, it gives you confidence it would take something monumental to tear him from the work he’s started with us.

This is just wonderful. An interview with Unai in Spanish (subtitled) so he can be open and clear about his thoughts and methods.

It’s brilliant

Nas's sales pitch to Unai is one of the great non-footballing moments of our history.

Is that BOSS as in Hugo, or just a reflection of his status at the club?

As somebody who learned that lingo (to an extent) in Mexico, where they enunciate, this is a stressful watch. Two-and-a-half minutes in.

I went to Belgium with a few Scottish mates back in the early 00s. One of them - Allan - had never been on a plane before, and only left Scotland once before in his life, when he went to Bristol for 2 nights on a stag do.

There’s a number of stories around his general inability to comprehend what other countries were (eg “I dinnae ken why we haftae get oor money in Euros. How do they no have pounds?”), but to skip to the relevant one after he got back he was absolutely amazed by the language.

“I dinnae understaun it. They all speak Belgian, ken. Even the weans are at it, they speak Belgian at eachother. How dae they ken whit they’re saying?”

It still cracks me up to this day.

Miguel Delaney downplaying his/our European achievement on the radio this evening, saying our revenue dwarfs that of everyone else in the competition, even Roma.
