From the John Percy quote - yet the main topic of interest for Villa’s fans will be the new contract for Emery, which should be signed off before the start of the season.

It seems nothing has really happened yet, but Emery / the club are pumping up the feel-good factor to get a bit of extra energy for the run-in.  It's clever timing.   A bit like the bus welcome, it feels like we're looking for marginal gains and I'm all for it.

Villa will travel to the United States for pre-season, and play friendlies against Columbus Crew and Club America. Talks have been held with both RB Leipzig and Club Brugge over another possible friendly.

Emery’s squad will also face Champions League semi-finalists Borussia Dortmund in early August and, potentially, Athletic Bilbao.

Hello, we may yet get a trip to Blibao, even if we're in the Champions League.

Nice. I had hoped should we fall out after the group stages of the CL we'd go on and win the EL with the final being in Bilbao but new rules ended that dream. A pre-season friendly there sounds almost as good.

He doesn’t do that walking over to the fans applauding at the end of games none of that Klop like fist pumping in front of the Holte or away fans when it’s all over
We never sing Unai give us a wave because we just know we won’t be getting one
At the end of the match it’s a quick handshake with the opposition bench and a swift walk back towards the tunnel
He is a true gentleman always acts with utter class and never moans about injuries or decisions or even too many games

And yet the connection he has with the Villa fans is incredible, he celebrates goals like a supporter, in every post match interview he mentions the fans first and how important they are to the team, he’s simply the Best and we love him

It does help that he is a football genius and we are on the best run We’ve had for a couple of decades or more
But there really is no one like him
Very true! I would like to add that when we are having a disadvantaging result in a game like the opposition get a leading goal against us as when Bournemouth leading one against nil in last match you can see by his facial expressions that he s feelings are hurt and he seems to be thinking faster than ever for solutions and very active on the touchline supporting the players to get going - true passion for the cause / Villa.

Great news and the timing no coincidence I suspect.

In the Athletic article about the extension and the power base that is being built for him, there’s this snippet which if find most odd:

Quote
Emery also given the authority to bring in a Spanish-speaking contingent of over two dozen, working closely on first team matters

I’m behind the man and so on, but 24+ extra? Boggle.

Remember, our wages and head count went up massively in last years accounts...

From the article: "Emery is targeting two centre-midfielders [one holding midfielder and the other a box-to-box], wingers and a centre forward in the unlikely event of leading scorer Ollie Watkins leaving for a huge transfer fee." What about another RB?

If that's what it takes to produce football like this it's well worth it, their entire salaries will be less than one decent player.

Yeah, that stood out to me. And LB if Digne is still leaving (maybe he isn't). We all probably had gathered this but it would certainly indicate Zaniolo not staying.

I think we'd be wise to review letting Digne go in light of his displays this season. I know it's high wages but to get someone of that quality in is going to cost too and he's fully integrated and committed on the pitch.

Can't believe I've just typed that after I spent a year writing him off but there you go.

I feel the same.  It would seem to be crazy to sell him.  Surely we can work on FFP elsewhere, not sell such an integral player.

There was a big six in the league
And Aston Villa said, "Rollover, rollover"
So they all rolled over and Spuds fell out

There were five in league
And Aston Villa said, "Rollover, rollover"
So they all rolled over and Chelski fell out

There were four in the league
And Aston Villa said, "Rollover, rollover"
So they all rolled over and Manure fell out

There were three in the league
And Aston Villa said, "Rollover, rollover"
So they all rolled over and Scousers fell out

There were two in the league
And Aston Villa said, "Rollover, rollover"
So they all rolled over and Arses fell out

There was one in the league
And Aston Villa said, "Rollover, rollover"
So they rolled over and Man City* fell out

There was Aston Villa in the league
And the club said, "We are back, so the rest of you can fuck off"

Thankyou
