Yeah the final whistle of the Bolton game was another matter. But considering how shit the football was and how rarely we won the second half of the season, think it was twice in the last 19, he should be disliked more than he is based on that. But i'd happily have a pint with him and think it would be an enjoyable time. I used to think the same of Bruce but he became such a bullshitting "everyone else's fault but mine" excuse machine that I think he's a twat as well. Just not in the class of McNeill, O'Leary and Gerrard.

McLeish was just a crap manager who we shouldn't have touched with the shitty end of a stick, he wasn't an especially unlikeable bloke. The biggest wanker we've had was Martin O'Neill. He actually set out to damage us, and despite his mealy mouthed words recently I will never forgive the twat for that, and it's only now that we're finally recovering from the damage he laid the foundations for.  O'Leary was probably a bigger, naturally unlikeable wanker, but he never set out to deliberately sabotage us, so he's only number two on my list.

I'd rank the managers from favourite to most hated since I've been attending regularly thus:

Little
Atkinson
Gregory
Emery
Smith
-
-
Grand Canyon sized gap between people who did well and people who were shit
-
Sherwood
Gerrard
McLeish
Lambert
Houllier
Di Matteo
Garde
Bruce
O'Leary
O'Neill

The bottom are three are set in stone, the shite above them are fairly interchangeable.

So you weren't going in the 80s Risso? I thought you were a similar age to me?

He was one of semi, part-time sort of Villa fans that had the gall to live somewhere else, wasn't he?

By the end of their time here I had grown to really hate both Lambert and Bruce.  A lot of the rest were well-meaning but hapless berks.

Just surprises me that anyone following Villa be it in person or from afar in the 80s wouldn't have SGT near the top and McNeill near the bottom.

I'm certainly not knocking if he, or anyone, was actually at matches, for reasons of my own I haven't been to a game for a long time so am in no position to knock anyone else.

I can't believe that you have missed out Sir Graham and Sir Ron Saunders, Tony Barton,  Graham Turner and Dr Jo.

McNeill. Who managed to relegate us and Man City in the same season

Dr Jo was just ahead of his time in English football, a lot of what he tried to do in 1990/91 and players just weren't having and the media mocked were the kind of things Wenger did at Arsenal 6 years later and became the norm.

I think you could create a special category of "least arsed about what they were doing" and stick McNeill, Garde and Di Matteo in there.

Again though, even with that turd we were shite when he came and shite when he left. Gerrard was like a bloody computer virus, he was destroying anything good about us from within.

No one will ever give less of a shit about the job than McNeill did. Wanker knew he was only there for part of a season before heading back to Scotland so couldn't care less how we did. Twat will always be top of my disliked manager list I reckon as it would be near impossible to be worse than him.

Worth remembering that the year we went down we were a dark horse tip to be near the top of the table by a fair few people. We finished bottom. And that flattered us.

No, I didn't go regularly until I went to university in Brum in the  early 90s. I lived in Milton Keynes and had to work at weekends to support myself while I was doing my A Levels, due to a particularly crap home life, so going to football wasn't really an option. Obviously Graham Taylor mk 1 would have been first or second otherwise. Sir Brian will probably always be my favourite though.

At least with MON we had a taste of the big time - Wembley trips, great matches, Europe, despite him pressing the self-destruct button as he left. He'd be fourth on my list though.

Lambert - moaning about the lack of resources he was given, then signs a new contract... Gerrard, levels of arrogance that were only matched by his dourness and incompetence and DOL - more arrogance and disrespectfulness for club and fans...

When you look at that list, we can appreciate how lucky we are to have who we've got today!
