Alfred the flint stone, I actually agree with you on that.

Rightly or wrongly it seems we've chosen to use the second half of the season to test the capabilities of the current squad playing the Emery way, both in terms of technical and mental parts of the game. Unlike Gerrard-ball, there is clear evidence that his approach will work in the long term if the players can execute the game plan effectively. From the fans perspective it is going to be frustrating watching this play out, and because we've been burned before by the 'big summer ahead' quotes from Purslow there is understandably a lot of scepticism around that.

Personally I really like Emery. For years we've had no real identity in the way we play, and that is the problem he is trying to fix first and foremost. He will likely put a stop to our scattergun approach in the transfer market, I have faith that he will only identify targets that will fit the specific profile he needs. I don't think we will go out and spend £200m in the summer but I'd expect a number of Moreno-like signings where they aren't household names but they are missing pieces of the jigsaw he is trying to build. Fingers crossed next season we will finally see a team that is 'greater than the sum of its parts.'

He basically said after the match that the players arn't carrying out his instructions, I can see quite a big turnover of players in the summer.

He looked thoroughly fed up of our lower half of the table-quality fuckers.

I wish they'd follow instructions. Stupid

Even comparing Gerrard to Emery is insane. One is a rookie manager the other a proven elite coach at some of the top teams in Europe. Villa are very lucky to have Emery and like our owners we need to give him time, resources and the respect he deserves.

Agree but I fear the old Villa trait of toxic negativity is rearing its ugly head.

Small point of order on Warsza's post. Only 7 of yesterday's starters were signed by Smith. The 8th has been here even longer than that.

Seems strange he picks out Kamara for criticism for giving the ball away, he looks by far the most composed player in possession, a few clangers aside. Even Moreno was guilty quite a few times.

He has said we are sticking with playing out from the back even if it takes 12+ months to get it right.

Have to admire his conviction, but it will be incredibly frustrating to watch the same fuck ups made over & over, by the same players without the ability to carry out his demands, without wanting to shout in his face to make some changes.

But then, I suppose all we can do now is just wait for the fuck ups, & hope they are all part of a learning curve for the few that will be here in 18 months.

Once we are mathematically safe, we might as well chuck a load of youngsters into the team to get them up to speed, considering we have pretty much consigned this season to the dustbin of history...

...Again

I thought Kamara was outstanding, our best player by miles.

If Emery wants us to dominate posession he will need to replace most of the team. Countless times yesterday Villa players had the ball bounce away from them, just basic control. None of our central defenders are comfortable on the ball, trying to get them to play out of defence is hairaising.

Yup, particularly as I thought McGinn did very well in holding the ball up when we did go long back to front.

at least Mings has the good sense to wack it when closed down, Konsa just passes it to Mings or Martinez.

Gotta keep up those passing percentage stats to make it look like he can do the job...

...even though five minutes of watching him shows that he cant.

I think there will be a massive turnover of players in the summer, with the incomings all being of the type who technically can play the way Emery wants us to, and a lot of them getting shown the door.

I’m all for that.
