This is good news, makes a change from politics. I've spent most of my online time today reading about political machinations.

WOW!!; this is a major statement as to the direction the owners are wanting the club to go.
Emery is that step below the level and status of Pep, Klopp, Zidane et al.

I'm sure he was mentioned as a manager Newcastle's new wealthy owners were trying to attract.

A very interesting and exciting appointment out the blue, and maybe the most significant appointment since GT 1987 in restoring the club name and reputation.

He turned Newcastle down apparently, for reasons unknown. Maybe he's got morals.

Maybe he dont like Mars bars deep fried in batter  ;)

Family apparently.

He was quoted as saying that Newcastle lacked a clear vision. Something that we must have then.

I've been reading around and in some quarters there's a perception that Emery is an excellent cup manager but not a league manager.  Fine by me, we're not going win it anyway but progress and a couple of trophies will do me very nicely.

He’s got his teams to qualify for Europe through the league hasn’t he?

He was their first choice at the time, he turned them down.

Emery has something to prove whereas I fear Pochettino would’ve though he was doing us a favour.

I can relax now and think about the league table in a different manner.  We are not going to get relegated.

That's my point.  He's only won one league in his career but he has an exceptional cup record.

I read that he wanted to stay near his son who's 18, he'd missed a lot of him growing up because of work and separating from his wife. But why would that have changed a few months later?

Yes he does - although his “failure” was a European final at a club that was a basket case.

Very happy with this. Welcome Unai.

I was watching Villarreal yesterday but never imagined we'd be able to get him. An impressive bit of business.
