If I ever see him in the street I'm chasing him down and hugging him. He will be frightened and call for help but I don't care.

What a hero.

Unai came to us with a brilliant record. I think he's stepped up his own levels here and is playing a more progressive style than he's previously been synonymous with. Unai might just be coming of age and with our squad of players I'm very excited at the potential ceiling.

Quote
"I'm never going to be a policeman in their private lives but the way to stay here with us is that football is priority. Think football."

I wonder if that was directed at any one in particular?

My guess is no, as it has been a bit of a mantra for him and his philosophy.  There’s a Times article about two weeks ago that discusses it.

And to think, if given the choice i'd have taken Poch over Emery every day of the week when we were looking for a manager. Now I wouldn't swap Emery for any other manager on the planet.

Part of it was he was available and Emery not. But none of us saw Big Nas pulling off this masterstroke and stealing him away from Villarreal. For where we were and where we intend to go, there isn’t a manager anywhere better or better suited.

And it's not just the skillset/who's the best; it's the timing, the fit, the alignment, the personal investment/'ownership' of the project.

Christ on a bike the stars have aligned and they are twinkling claret and blue.

I almost don't regret passing up my tickets to accompanying the doubly bereaved friend to go and see Billy Bragg at the Roundhouse (don't be too jealous Risso ;)

Unai Emery is the milkman of sporting effectiveness and tonight he left an extra three pints.

I would always have preferred Emery. Not out of any knowledge or insight, but I just always felt Poch was overrated and Emery was underrated. So guesswork.

Absolutely agreed, though, Emery is 100% the dog's bollocks and he's all ours. I love the man.

I’m not even sure if I meant to type three points or pints.
I have had some refreshment with late night food, pending a possible going beyond such indulgences come the end of the year.

I did wear my villa scarf coming out of the gig and excitedly invaded strangers conversation about tonight’s results announcing I was a Villa ST holder who had passed up his tickets tonight. They indulged me with a generous ‘happy days’.

The gig would have been better without Billy referencing West Ham prompting some geezer near me to launch into
#Champions of Europe, We know who we are etc

Gotta be 'pints'! Three pints of creamy bovine victory.

Sounds like you had a great night anyway 🙂

Edit: and if he played 'The Price I Pay', I'm officially jealous.

Ok hands up I admit that on the way to the game I was doubting him tonight with the lineup
why has he got Konsa on the right again and I’m not sure it’s a game for Tielemans etc

I should have known better, after an absolute masterclass and probably the best performance I’ve seen in the last 2 or 3 decades, yeah Liverpool probably tops it but no one was there for that

Anyway, I’ll probably doubt him again and he will prove me wrong again I’m sure

Long live the King

He said, ahead of this game that he was “going to try and reduce the distance between them and us”.

Thank you, Unai.

Not tonight Josephine. https://www.setlist.fm/setlist/billy-bragg/2023/roundhouse-london-england-3aed127.html

I was however moved to get to hear Tank Park Salute, my ‘favourite’ grief song, moving account of the loss of his Dad…

#My friend says she could see no way ahead with you Stevie
And I was probably better off without you#

She was damn right

His starting line up was wrong though....

Actually, I still think he made a mistake picking Konsa at RB...

Just kidding, he's a genius and I'm a twat.
