I like how he said to lose in Manchester was “a very bad result”. Appreciate it’s a language thing, but that’ll wind up Manure fans no end!

I really admire what these players have done since Emery came in. They have really performed very well and delivered us a great run of results. Many of them have reignited their villa careers.

That said, if this season does end on a flat note that will have been the second time (possibly third if you consider we were 9th under Gerrard at one point in 21-22) this group has got a nosebleed after getting into a great league position. 11th in 20-21 was disappointing considering where we were mid-way through that season.

I'm not saying that means we need to break up the team just that we really need to add 3 or 4 players who can handle, and even thrive, with the media pressure that comes with getting into a good position to challenge the European places.

I just think some have gone as far as they can which is why we don’t make that extra step. They’ve all improved but clearly some won’t take us any higher. Another forward, someone to replace Bailey with actual pace, a midfielder who will create, a right back, a centre half and cover for Martinez. I think we’ll wheel and deal and there will be a big turnaround of players.

2020-21 is an illustrative example of how a bad ending can colour your view of an entire season. Despite some wonderful results I don't recall it especially fondly because we fumbled an easy catch.

Interview with him here:

https://www.espn.com/soccer/english-premier-league/story/4943774/unai-emery-on-rescuing-aston-villa-european-qualification

Top interview.

There are things which, in any real football club are "permanent:

The ground
The colours
The fans

Everybody and everything else is just passing through:

Owners
Directors
Managers
Coaches
Players

Unai recognises, understands and accepts this, which is why we should appreciate him.

I love him.

I'm not joking.

If I ever happen to see him, I'm going to ask him if I can give him a hug, and then tell him he's the best manager in the world.

Purslow could sell those hugs at twenty quid a piece. He’d make millions.

Rare to find a world class coach and humble genuine human being in one package. Convinced that he will become a Villa legend over the next 5 years

I'd like him to adopt me (if I was an orphan).
