They used to sell all that Yankee doodle shite in the club shop in the nineties and it's as dodgy looking now as it was then.

You know there is an entire demographic that doesn’t think like us and certainly don’t dress like us. In the UK and across the world. I like that we are trying different things for different audiences. It’s how we expand the name and I know people hate the term, but the “brand”. Our revenues will need to come from all kinds of new markets if we are stay at or near the top of the football food chain. Because if we rely only on the historical fan base then our prices for everything goes up.

I disagree. Things should only be done the way I like them.

In all seriousness, it's a good job most fans aren't like me - I've never bought any food or drink inside VP and buy none of the merchandise. I have the Champions of Europe home shirt and a claret & blue striped scarf and that's it.
Ha, this is about right for me - I was given my scarf for free (“Aston Villa FC - Coca Cola Cup Final 1994”), a claret & blue hat that my gran knitted, and the anniversary shirt (first shirt I’d bought in over a decade, and bought that primarily because it doesn’t have a sponsor on and won’t go out of date).

A man after my own heart.

It isn't even that I'm tight. I'm no Dave W - as recently as 2014 I gave 5p to a homeless man so that he'd leave me alone.

I just eat before I go to a game, don't want to risk buying a pint lest I need a piss and be forced to venture into the Gents, and I get a deeply uncomfortable static charge and nipple rash from the synthetic shit they make football shirts out of.

A slightly different process, and reaction to the release of our most recent crest...

VfL Wolfsburg Fans Cry Tears of Joy As Bundesliga Club Reintroduces Historic Crest
Monday, May 11, 2026Glenn Cook

In the middle of a relegation battle, German Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg gave their fans a ray of hope over the weekend when they brought back an old club crest.

Just before their final home match of the 2025-26 season against FC Bayern Munich on Saturday, May 9, Wolfsburg unfurled a giant version of the crest in the Volkswagen Arena and announced on their website and social media channels that they’d be switching back to it after 24 years.

Fans in the stands were overwhelmed with emotion at the surprise unveiling, with some crying tears of joy at the sight. The old crest is beloved by Wolfsburg supporters, with many still wearing older jerseys with it on the chest to matches.

The new old crest is a green rounded W inside a white circle with green and white outlines, though the colours can be reversed depending on the background. At the top of each of the three stems in the W is a castle battlement.

“VfL Wolfsburg looks back on more than 80 years of history. The battlement crest has been a central element from the very beginning. The battlements create a sense of identity and embody tradition. We deliberately took our time with this decision and made it together. Within a collective that unites all sports and brings all people together. The battlement crest is a defining element of our club culture.”

— Sebastian Rudolph, chairman, VfL Wolfsburg Supervisory Board
The decision to bring back the battlement crest — or Zinnenwappen as it’s known in German — was a collaboration between the club and its supporters group, along with design firms Atelier Sasserth and Mutabor.

“The collaboration over the past months was intensive, but above all very trusting. A new sense of togetherness has emerged between the club, fans and committees, which is now also reflected in the battlement crest,” said Marvin Minner, a supporters’ group representative who took part in the consultations. “We have been campaigning for the return of the battlements for over 20 years. It is the most defining element of our fan culture – today it is returning permanently across the entire club. For us, this is a historic and incredibly emotional moment.”

VfL Wolfsburg was founded in 1945, evolving out of a multi-sports club for workers at the Volkswagen factory in the city. The battlement crest was used between 1953 and 1998. At that point, Wolfsburg added a roundel with the club name spelled out in full. This lasted four years, until an ultra-modern W crest was introduced in 2002.

For Saturday’s match, VfL Wolfsburg wore their regular 2025-26 home kit, made by Nike, but with the new crest added (see photo below). Going forward, though, production lead times mean that the old crest will still appear on Wolfsburg’s 2026-27 home and away kits.

However, Nike and Wolfsburg have figured out a way to produce a special alternate kit with the battlement crest for 2026-27. The club hopes to unveil that jersey near the start of the new season.

Wolfsburg’s online shop was also advertising 2025-26 kits with the battlement crest for sale, but as of Monday morning, they appear to have already sold out. But they did have T-shirts, hoodies, jackets and caps with the crest in stock.

VfL Wolfsburg currently sit in 16th place out of 18 teams in the 2025-26 Bundesliga table with 26 points, six behind Werder Bremen and level with 1. FC Heidenheim and FC St. Pauli with one match to play. The 17th- and 18th-place teams will be automatically relegated to 2.Bundesliga for 2026-27, while the 16th-place team will play the third-placed 2.Bundesliga team in a one-game playoff to keep their spot in the top division.

Wolfsburg’s final match of the season is against St. Pauli on Saturday, May 16, at the Millerntor-Stadion in Hamburg.

W is such a troublesome letter, caution would be advised.

Surely they should have a Wolf Head, like the old Roma badge?

They have just stuck with the 1951-53 crest. If not that, then the 1998-2002 crest in dark green.

Wonder if any fans will want a second star inside the crest if we win the final next week.

Screw that, 4 stars when we win a 2nd European Super Cup.

A cluster of stars no less.

Only when we win our second European/Champions League or 20 league titles.
