Foul - Dennis Taylor, 4.

Just no-one ask him to play again.

Rory Wilson enlisted at the age of 16 for what?
Allow the lad to grow in Scotland.

I hate to break it to you but 16 is quite old to be enlisted/recruited.

These clubs can sign them, fail them or sell their talent.
By making unmet promises and having high expectations of young men, you can damage their careers and well being and all they do is end up in League Two.
Some will just settle for that league or some will rise up again even as squad members higher up the leagues but only few will become elite.
Wilson could easily get home sick and that would be a waste all round.
Yes, why should we bother with that youth development malarky because it might not work?!?

Lets leave that sort of nonsense to clubs like Chelsea...  ???

How good is Rory Wilson? - genuine question.

Currently, he is still raw because he is only 17. But his goalscoring record with Rangers, Scotland & Villas youth & reserve teams is ridiculously high for a kid when he was playing at the ages of 15-16 year old in ages groups of u18 to u21. He has scored around 50-odd for Rangers youth in one season, 13 in 12 for Scotland u18s & 8 in 10 (732 mins) for Villas reserves. So he has finishing boots...

Homesickness cost us a good 'un back in 80/81 when top prospect Brian 'Choccy' McClair fell to it and we were forced to let him return home to
Motherwell where he went onto have a great career at Celtic and Utd.......but yes he was originally one of ours

I think a lot of things are put in place to ensure homesickness isn’t as much of thing nowadays….30 years ago I am sure it was sign/into digs and sink or swim…now the players (particularly ones that were coveted like this lad) have management, scope for families to move to the area etc to try everything to make them settle.

As for his development…he seems to have made it to the u23’s so every chance he will be training with first team regularly and 9 subs means he might get some time on bench this season

Good article, thanks for posting. Seems to have a determined and focused attitude to make it as far as he can, without getting ahead of himself.

Ironically, I’d imagine Rangers (or Celtic) would be a good place to send promising young players.  We invest in their youth academy, steal the best ones, but send them back on loan to get experience.

Sending him on loan to Celtic now would be peak shithousery. Sounds great.

Does the player not get a say in where he goes?  I'm guessing he does, no point sending him somewhere he doesn't want to be as he isn't going to improve if he isn't happy.  I would imagine this type of thing is well sourced by the staff (Jedinak) at Villa before he goes anywhere.

"There are good challenges with the 18s and 21s so it is just a case of me pushing on. I need to try and push on. We’ll wait and see how many goals I score. I take it game by game.

I don’t have that much involvement with the first team, just now and again. I think it is really important though if I get the opportunity to go and take it and learn as much as I can.

“I speak to John McGinn now and again. He is good with all the young Scottish boys at Villa. He’s a top guy. I have scored 12 goals this season including the Scotland one on Sunday.”

Wilson spoke about adapting to life away from home following his move from Glasgow

"Obviously, the standard is top drawer especially with the first team. There are world class players everywhere. What you hear about it is what you get. But that’s what you want. It’s up to me to push myself.
It ook me a bit of time at first to settle in because you are away from your family for the first time. But you get used to it. You have to get on with it and take it in your stride."
