Southgate shows the characteristics that lots of weak leaders have, in being petty and saying he'll do one thing and then actually doing another. He's more interested in being seen to be strong, when he clearly isn't, and hence keeps picking Harry Maguire as a way of "sticking it" to his detractors.

The bloke's an absolute wankshaft.

I hate him. And most of the players he picks, to be fair.

I agree with you both, particularly Axl's precise summing up. ;D

But think how much worse it would have been if we had played the accident prone Mings instead of the rock solid MacGuire.

I know you're being sarcastic but it reminded me of your average Tory troll on twitter saying how much worse things would be under Labour.

Another team that should be playing 4231. Plenty of quality available in each position.

Taking the lad and a few of his mates to the England U21s tonight, he's hoping to see J.Ramsey 8 get a game..

Fuck me Sterling has no composure at all does he. When he gets in the box, he's flappier than a goose with a snake tied to it.

That's such an apt description of Sterling. Like it.

Before the match I would have said they're only 4 certain starters for the Iran game, Pickford, Rice, Sterling and Kane, but after watching the match, would have to add Bellingham, can't believe even Southgate would leave him out after that performance. But there again, it is Southgate, we're talking about.

He and Foden are both limp wristers. They flail around like marionettes.

Ireland leading 2-0 against Armenia then bang! two in a minute and it's 2-2 with the second as a result of a shocking intercepted pass by Conor Hourahane.  Ireland should be out of sight with all the chances they've created.
