Players that have properly looked after themselves are lasting longer now, he could well have a few years left in him, that attitude and his clear commitment on the pitch is fantastic.

To think it looked like he was on the way out too.

He's probably been our most consistent performer this season.

Three year deal on £100k/week. Reduced wage but for a longer duration.

Something like that might suit all parties.

Ah, the old Shay Given trick. That one turned out marvellous.

Well not really - Given was 34/35 when he signed wasn’t he? and he was joining new on a 5 year deal. This would be a younger player, taking a wage reduction, over a shorter period. I’d probably go 2 years, but other than that makes plenty of sense.

Except we signed his replacement last summer for big money.

Digne has improved out of all recognition under Emery. Great pro. Clever too, rarely gets beyond the ball these days but still a great delivery on him. Used to be so soft defending at the back post, a lot tougher these days and smarter defending one on one. Much happier with Ramsey or McGinn ahead of him on left.

There’s an option to do nothing I suppose and risk him leaving on a free.

If he loves it here that much, 4 year contract, 30k a week and a Curly Wurly.

Digne: “In England, there is no obsession with the extension as in France. The clubs are more serene financially even if Aston Villa may be penalised by FFP & have to sell players before June 30. The leaders want me to stay, that’s clear & it’s important to me.”

Digne: “I have one year left on my contract. I feel very good at Villa but you know that in football anything can happen. I’m open to anything. When there is only one year left on the contract, everyone plays their game.” @leJDD #avfc

He's in a very strong negotiation spot especially after Maatsen's disasterclass at OT. Ideally he stays.

Away from home Digne is perfect for most games. At home Maatsen is.

its the same situation as Torres, both ok until the defending need kicks in.
although i think Torres is better defensively than Maatsen.

Maatsen, Torres and Cash as three in any back four = you better need a shit hot attack.

And even then.
