All his free-kicks are poor.

He wasn’t great last night. Seems to have lost a bit of pace too. Maybe he needs a rest to recharge because in the early part of the season he was our best performer.

Laid on what should have been a lovely assist for Celtic to score before they did. He didn't have his best night but I didn't want Maatsen on as he's not shown much defensive abilities and the game was still in the balance.

Thought Maatsen had a good game when he came on.

Lucas has had a couple of shaky games in the last week or so, not helped by the trauma we’re having at LCB. Maatsen hasn’t done well in a few cameos in the last few weeks but against Celtic he was very good I thought, aggressive and driving forwards.

Assuming he plays tonight we'll become the club he's played most for in his career, overtaking his four seasons at Everton.

Which given he was the first player in Emery's reign to have a direct replacement signed is very impressive.

There’s always a to do between Digne and Bailey on direct free kicks
Think it would have been sorted out but it seems to be ongoing!

“Lucas Digne has done everything he can outside of training hours to improve. On occasion, he has stayed overnight at Bodymoor Heath to ensure he gets enough sleep and returned early from scheduled days off following France games” (Jacob Tanswell)

We don’t speak about Digne enough and how much he has dedicated himself on and off the pitch to be the best he can be. He will go down as one of the best LBs we’ve ever had. Arguably the best.

I voted for him as player of the season last year. I've said it multiple times, but I'll say it again. The way he committed himself to the team after being packed and ready to go home to France as the window was closing. He stayed, he knuckled down, and he kept Moreno out of the side, and is now one of the first names on the team sheet. I get the feeling we wouldn't tolerate sulking or diva behaviour, but it's a credit to him that he's gone from expendable to a core part of the team. 100% the attitude you'd want from a player.

Says a lot about the average left backs we've had. But surely it was Stan the man (not that one, the other).

I think it's a three-way tie for the left back position in my all time Villa XL between Wright, Staunton and Digne.

I guess a lot depends on how the next 15 months or so plays out. If it ends with Digne with some of medal and / or a second season in the Champions League, it probably lifts him above the other two.

I have been frustrated though not to see Maasten get more of a go.
I like Maatsen to play vs Preston and save Digne for Brighton away.

I thought you had reservations about Maatsen.
