Doing both at once - 2 proposals; re GTC and GTG!

Hello, Guess The Crowd teams and Guess The Goal 🥅 players!

It’s getting close to changeover time! 😃
Yessss!
Back in August I said it would be half a season for each game.


Timetable Info:


GTG 🥅 is due to finish with the Leeds game on 28 December. (I hope to hang on to the lead until then 😃)

GTC: I had planned to start in the New Year, but the first available fixture is the cup game v Nemesis (10 January) followed by the home game v YKWho (14Jan).


However, here’s a proposal.

1. I would like to launch GTC and play both games ( GTG and GTC) for Chelsea on Boxing Day because it’s at home!

Otherwise, there are not that many GTC ( home) games in the second half of the PL although it is half a season.


2. So, and here’s a radical thought,


What about including away PL games in Guess The Crowd this season?


I realise it’s a startling proposition, given the already brilliant game that is GTC. However, it would give us a few more rounds, this season. 20 instead of 11 + cups.

(Goodness knows what’ll happen to the usual crowds everywhere with the vaxx chex, anyway.)


3. Obvs it’s Our Year in the Cup and we’ll play those home and away as usual, right up to the Final!



I don’t want to mess with the fundamentals of GTC, given its hallowed status on here (I am the current keeper of the flame) without an opportunity for genuine consultation being offered to the denizens of all 5 divisions, including those currently in the bath. Hence this invitation to comment and advise. On any of the points above. Feel free.


Short version:

I’m suggesting starting GTC before finishing GTG

And

Playing away in GTC for the rest of the season.

Louzie, why not stay with tradition and do GTC Home Games, and keep running GTG as a bonus point competition?

GTG is easy enough to continue as a player - simply guess a minute.

GTC aways would lack the element of skill that homes (used to) do, and essentially make half the competition random.

So that's my contribution to the debate.

Up to you. Personally, I prefer GTG as opposed to GTC. Don't have to think about it.

I can think of a way to combine both games for the rest of the season;  it’s to keep the tradition, integrity and skill of GTC to Home games only ( good point, 260475) and play GTG for Away fixtures.

We will pick up where we were with the membership of GTC divisions and start from 0 all round. I had thought of that last year.

This could be the answer, as it’s the only way I could run both games simultaneously, which is what I’ve been asked about before now, as well.
I think Heroes Discussion would get a bit crowded, otherwise.


It will mean keeping both the new GTC Rules and Divisions Thread sticky as well as the GTG Rules and Table, in Match Threads and Players, and I will have updates to post in both, but Rounds will be the same, just alternating with the fixtures.


Cup games; I suggest Home as GTC Extras and Away, GTG.

(Of course there’ll be more cup rounds after Jan 10th!  )


This is a way of playing both at once and it also means that GTG doesn’t have to finish early, so there’s chance to overtake the current leader 👍

Like Legion, I prefer GTG, as it's so simple but I'm happy to go with the flow and play whichever you decide to run.

I like GTG as you can have a pretty good idea of the crowd by looking at whether game sold out or tickets left. With near enough full home crowds, it's a bit more unpredictable to do GTG.

Never really got into GTG. Too random. Did like the idea of including away games, particularly as Villa is now generally sold out. But happy to go with the flow.

Thank you all very much for your thoughts.  It’s helpful to get a consensus and I think that Guess The Crowd for Home matches and Guess The Goal for Aways seems to hit the spot.
So, that’s what we’ll do 👍

For the the Chelsea match on Boxing Day, there will be the first round of Guess The Crowd 🥧! (Yes, it’s a balti pie.)

We need to be prepared for the possibility that it might not happen, given the numbers of players currently isolating or injured, but we’re optimistic to the last, on H&V !

 👀 in Heroes Discussion for Round 1, and in Match Threads for the Rules, Divisions and other stuff, very soon (during the next 48 hours).  I’m off to resurrect the GTC ledgers from the Restricted section of the archives...

If there is a fixture v Leeds on the 28th, we will play Guess The Goal 🥅 and it will be a very short run-in!


I hope that crowds and fixtures will have settled down by the time we play the first Cup match.
