Houllier did himself no favours in that game. Liverpool were not great at the time and they turned us over. Apart from all the fawning in front of the Kop he said after the game -  '"If I have got to lose 3-0, I would prefer it to be to them as I like Liverpool."

Was it not AEG that made the dummy run against Brighton? - I've heard a couple of people including in this well-written piece) claim it was Bailey.

Houllier was a clusterfuck in front of the media for us. The "8th to 12th" comments when we'd just finished in the top six the last two seasons, digging out players when you've got to work with them until the window opens at least, and the whole Liverpool fiasco.

You would have expected more diplomacy from such an experienced head.

So far he's dealt with it all very well. I don't expect that to change.

AEG made the dummy run, dragging 2 defenders with him, but it was Bailey that was unmarked waiting for the pass

He is the smartest dressed manager we have had in a long time.

He was the same at Ibrox. I thought it was because they're very staunch about 'tradition' there but it looks like it's a personal preference.

Much prefer to see a Manager in this smart attire than someone like Pep who insists on looking like a plasterer called Dave on his way to the local (scruffy twat) and if that was not enough that Managers are trying to emulate his playing style people like Potter even started dressing like him - wanker

He'll deal with it fine.  We need to get over this paranoia now.  People will ask him about Liverpool, it's natural.  He may say a few complimentary things - so what?  He's our manager and that's all he is foucussed on and all we should be foucussed on, rather than trying to micro analyse every word and action to catch him out.  If he touches the badge in the tunnel, who cares?  Does it really matter?

I am sure Dean Smith will get the same inane questions at his presser before they play us in a few weeks - its what the media thrive on in the lack of real news

I can't be bothered with them any more. Two press conferences every game, what would I be waiting for him to say? I can't think of anything that'd surprise me. The only ones of anybody's that are worth watching are Bruce's when he's clinging on again at wherever he's blagged a job.

The injury update.
That's all I really tune in for.
The rest is meaningless guff in the main
Mind you I'd rather sit through one of these than, for example, a   political offering.
Unless it's taking place in Finland.

Great piece, capturing a few really key points in those games....the constant petty fouling that players get away with really pisses me off too. We committed 8 v ManCiŁy and the same to Leicester compared to their 25! It's not shithousery, it's fecking cheating! Why don't refs acknowledge and respond to this during the games? It's blindingly obvious what's going on!

Totally agree about the “rotational tactical” fouling

Football could take a leaf out of rugby’s methods. When a team is defending on its own line and giving away scrums and penalties, the referee will say that that the next person to commit a foul, even if it’s their first of the game, will get yellow carded
