I’d agree Smithy, Ian Maatsen’s whole game is based on him bombing forward and causing havoc.

Not good enough. Just chops back inside and slows the momentum down every time.

Manager instructions.

I went to Ipswich at home and Garcia after the red card had about 30 yards of space to run into. Went bombing down the touchline and overhit a cross and Emery was waving frantically at him as he came back.

His next run he crosses the halfway line and then checks back and just passes to the nearest CM.

I don't think Garcia will be much different next season. Anyone expecting RB in Emery's system to be getting to the byline and endless crosses is going to be waiting a while.

Yep, Cash has said it in an interview before too. He is told to do it, I actually think it is against his natural instincts and he is a lot better when he has more freedom to bomb forward.

His final ball is biggest weakness in his game. Gets into great positions at times but usually wastes it.

Cash is  just about ok if he is not up against any decent winger.
He has the occasional good game but is usually a dissapointment and we have needed a better RB for a long time.
I do not understand what has happened to Garcia, I would play Konsa ahead of cash every time.
Disasi , is even worse than Cash.

Strange that Emery changed his policy of not replacing him with Konsa for big games. I can only assume he doesn’t rate Disasi as a CB. Although he was cup-tied of course.

I'm in the same camp with Garcia.  Can't quite work out what he's done wrong.

He's come fresh from the Spanish second division. He was never meant to be an immediate challenger to Cash imo. We wanted the Celta Vigo RB but they were asking for too much so we got a lad slightly more advanced in his progress than Ned the Serb was.

García has the same agent as Pau. Monchi had a nice dinner with him, he mentioned another of his clients, a young RB at Levante with talent and that he might be worth a punt. So we went for it. Wouldn't be surprised if García is gone next year.

Fuck it, let's go full circle and have Kessler-Hayden as our first choice before he goes down with Preston who've gone to shit since we beat them.

These parts especially in bold of Matty Cash comments from his interview are up for discussion :

"Sometimes you are going to have tough times and we need them (the supporters) to be the extra man.

Sometimes I feel like they can be a little bit against us. I understand fans have their own opinions and too right they can moan. They pay for us, they pay their money to be here....

We just need the fans to be with us. We don’t need them against us. We need them supporting us.

Sometimes you read things on social media and you think: ‘Just stick with us’. We have three massive games now and try to give us as much confidence as you can.

Even during games and stuff, if things don’t go well it is like there is a big grudge against us, do you know what I mean?

I think the groans he hears every time he chops back, often despite there being space to attack or a team mate to pass to has got to him.

He had a great game on Saturday, his best performance for a long time. All things considered, at £14m he's been great for us for the last 4 years. I know it's infuriating when he cuts back inside almost every time he's on the ball, on the plus side he never gives the ball away. I suspect due to his limitations he's instructed to be cautious in the extreme.

I'd be happy to keep him around, but we need a better first choice.

I think you’re partially right re Garcia, apart from I think he’s shown more than enough to suggest he won’t be gone next season and will get a fair bit of game time. I think its a bit like Bogarde, lots of talent, Emery gives them game time they need, when we need them due to injuries, amount of games etc, then pulls them out for a period, all part of their development.
KKH has done well at Preston, but as we saw in the cup, they are miles away from where Villa are currently, I doubt we’ll ever see him in the first team.

Whenever I've watched KKH though I've thought he's got the ability. I know Preston are shit but he's cleaned up the player if the season awards there which is more than just doing well, that's excelling in the division below.

I'd like to see him given a chance because I think he's got the potential to be a top class modern full back.

My husband watched Preston much more closely than me and says that KKH has been brilliant for PNE but he doesn't think he is Premier League standard.

He’s their stand out player according to a Preston fan I know well. Stand out in a struggling side doesn’t necessarily mean he’s any good or good enough for the next level. He has a big summer coming up now and he needs to show that he’s ready. I really hope he does.

Unfortunately, there is a bit of a gap between "too good for Preston" and "good enough for Aston Villa".  I'd like to think he can bridge it, but the club will know better than any of us.

The guys playing full back taking the throw ins probably hear more of the crowd and coach grumbles than any other player. There's definitely tactical instruction when it comes to Cash to hold possession and position. He used get caught up the field quite a bit but that rarely happens now.
