Much as I'd like to see Archer etc I'd prefer us to have a proper go at winning this.  Players like Watkins & Ings should be capable of playing Sat - Wed - Sat, particulalry with all the international breaks.  I think a win and the momentum would be better for us as a club than giving the fringe players minutes.  The kids time will come - Smith has shown that if they are good enough he will back them.

Watkins looks in need of football but I'd give Ings a break for sure.

I'd hope none of our non-internationals are in need of a break. We've played two games since their last fortnight off from first team duties, and we've got just two more weekend fixtures until their next one.

With a couple of exceptions for those who’ve been playing internationals in South America or winning gold medals I think most would benefit from more competitive game time together to work on cohesiveness so hope we avoid wholesale changes.

Nailed on for eleven changes now.

Sack it off, rest key players for the meaningful league games to come.

Cup games not meaningful ?

Yes, would agree with that. All of the players in the teams playing in Europe will play loads more games this season, and yes add in the international breaks will give most of ours a break as well. The likes of Ings, Watkins, Cash, Young, Targett, Ramsey, Konsa and Mings should not really need to be rested at all.

From the training photos seems that Carney and JPB might be getting back to fitness which is good news. Might be too early to see them tomorrow but great if they could feature in some capacity

I hope that's the attitude of Chelsea, as if we play like we did the other week, but tighten up proficiency in both boxes, then we have a chance.

The idea that we shouldn't care about winning a trophy is mind boggling.

We should always take all cup games seriously. We have a great history with the League Cup and let’s go for it. It will be a tough ask but I’m very happy with the way we’ve played in the last two games and we can beat these.

Two realistic chances to win a trophy every season.

I’ll never understand the modern psyche that they’re not important.

Always remember hearing a Wigan fan on the radio when asked would you rather have stayed up than win the FA Cup. He said, “I can’t imagine telling the grandkids all about the year we finished 17th - I will be able to tell them how we won the Cup at Wembley though.

Trophies. That’s what it’s all about, for me.

What I hope happens
is we play a slightly weaker side to save players for Man Utd but still be enough to get by a weaker Chelsea team,
Then go to Old Trafford with our top players rested and come home with some sort of positive result

What I think will happen
is we will play a side that will put up a reasonable show but ultimately won’t be strong or good enough to beat a second string Chelsea
Then turn up at Old Trafford with all our best players rested and lose again

Sorry for the gloom but hope is all I have
