The heat map is interesting, showing how much he peals off to the left. I can see Watkins starting on the left but them interchanging a lot in moves. Ings pulling a defender out and Watkins running into the gap he's opened up for him.

I completely misread that and thought Ings was going to take a very different approach to distracting defenders!!  :o

This is brilliant if unexpected from Villa, Ings is a true pro and will be great for the dressing room. At the very least scoring goals should be something to look forward to. Being greedy I would like one more statement player just to top us off. Reading other other clubs sites they are on one hand jealous of the players we have got in on the other wishing us well, especially after the club statement.

Having posted the Athletic article above, I just wanted to say I've given Gregg Evans plenty of stick in the past for lacking tactical insight and knowledge.  I just wanted to say credit where it's due, I think that's a pretty well constructed and thought out piece.

Maybe the surest way to let everyone know we’ve moved on from Jack is to give his song away to someone else.

Danny Ings would work to the tune of super Jack.

I hope I phrased it right, I knew I was on dodgy ground as I was typing it :)

Nah, I don’t think it does.

He’d get the “Salifou” tune for me.

Proper goal getter is Ings. Quality addition. Think he'll get a lot of chances and has ability and composure to finish them

He looks like a poor man's Shearer.  I don't mean that as a insult - Shearer was tremendous.

Ings has the long distance strikes and the burst of speed, clinical finishes too.

He took his goal nicely today and we now know that we have two strikers who can score at any point within the game, whether we are under the cosh or on top of teams.  He is a touch of class and with Watkins pressing as well as he does, Ings find space.

Bit concerned watching that. Coming from Southampton I assumed he'd be this mega pressure forward e.g. charging around the CBs, forcing them into corners and kicking the ball out of play so we can build up pressure like Ollie did very well last season.

Instead we got a bit of a Darren Bent type performance e.g. people who didn't see the game will see he scored and think it's an o.k debut yet reality is he barely touched the ball, didn't make runs in behind and generally gave Watford CBs a very easy time out there with lack of movement.

He's better than that but from what I saw today Ollie is number one pick as CF away from home whereas it will be better to use Ings in home games.

Really interested what front 4 selection we get for next week's match. We have full week's training now to get them all up to speed.

Not impressed.

Did not put the work rate that ollie puts in and really didnt cause watford any problems

Although he had very little creative support. Buendia was hopeless, AEG was just as bad. Mcginn was having to support nakamba in the middle so he wasimited getted forward.
