Leon Bailey (out on loan to AS Roma)

Surprised how little criticism he has received for today’s performance.
He was atrocious and a major reason  why we did not make more of the opportunities we had today.
Maybe it was because Diaby almost managed to out do him for ineptitude.
He looked totally disinterested.

It’s probably because he’s been utterly fantastic this season, arguably one of the best players in the league. So a bad game probably doesn’t warrant throwing him to the wolves.

But he was awful today.

Yep refer to my last post. Players have bad games, the set up isolated him and Ollie. He has been exceptional this year, so has plenty of benefit of the doubt.

Van de Ven, had him in his pocket. I thought him going off injured was a result for Bailey, but then we let in those two goals. He looked like he couldn’t wait to get off when he was subbed, hopefully just one of those games and he’ll be back firing for Ajax

Is it me or does Bailey look unfit and maybe carrying an injury? He just seems to lack the zip he had even a few weeks ago, everything looks laboured.

His worst game for us in 18 months pretty much. Terrible decision making, dribbling and basic passing from pretty much the first minute.

When you're playing a team of Spurs quality it's a huge issue when the front two are miles off it like they were today.

What was the excuse given by the commentators on why Bailey shouldn't have got a pen early on? Sky included it in their highlights so just wondering what VAR / Ref saw that a standing leg being hit before the ball was not being a given as a penalty,

To be honest I didn't see the defender make contact with the ball at all, either before or after. Looked a nailed on penalty to me.

He has been brilliant but three factors affected him today I think. 1) both Udogie and Van Der Ven have shit loads of pace so could match him for that while both are twice the size of him too so ultimately had the measure of him, 2) he had to adapt to a new position in the new formation and looked unsure of where he was meant to be and 3) he looked absolutely knackered.

He's had a brilliant season and shut up a lot of people who doubted his talent. But fuck me he was parks standard today, just looked like it was all a bit too much effort to try.

The first point is key I think and related to the second. In terms of support and attack our midfield was largely non-existent, so Ollie and Bailey were isolated and feeding off scraps. The setup just didn’t enable support to get in and around them enough.

He went down very easily and in instalments, didn't see much contact at all.

Ollie right at the start was a far better shout. Amazed more isn't being made about it as Van De Ven lightly touches the ball and then totally takes Ollie out.

He likes to play out wide, preferably on his weaker side, so he can use the threat of cutting back. He is fast and has a bag full of tricks.

Play him in the centre and most PL centre backs will announce their presence early doors with what used to called a reducer. This requires a different sort of player. Withe, Savo or Dublin would get angry and join the battle. Duran was a punt which hasn't worked out, and Ollie can't do it all on his own.

It is right at the start of this. Heard it with sound now and the commentators stated Bisouma got hit toe to the ball in a  "clumsy" way, but seems to ignore he trod on baileys foot then trips him before any ball is played. As Bailey was standing him up waiting for the attempt at the ball to then go around him, that was why it looked like Bailey "went down in instalments" and I believe was a massive miss by Ref/ Lino/ VAR.
