Enjoyed the article Dave.  I hope Mr Purslow reads it.

My first thought exactly. But then I guess begrudging yes he’d have to be a success which would be good.

But I can’t get this out if my head.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/59037905

The stuff I read about Potter here really stayed with me. Sounds like the real deal to me. Glad it’s not on my head to make the decision, but I know nothing about Stevie G to attract me. Colleagues asking me if if was wrong to sack Dean. Maybe. Just depends on the next move eh.

I don't think it's the possibility that he might see it as a path to the Liverpool job is particularly the sticking point!

Anyway, if it's Gerrard then so be it. Can't say the appointment particularly fills me with optimism, but I'll give him the same support I would anyone else. Plenty of managers have come before him with unimpressive records and gone on to do something special.

Excellent article, by the way.

If he joins, I'm guessing it would be for a period of around 3 years; hopefully not long enough to recreate the issues faced by Ron Sanders' successors. His short-term ambition might work in our favour.

Good article. Particularly like the parts about getting the club and no overhaul needed. This is spot on. We have players such as McGinn and Mings, who might not always play well but have, alongside the greasy one, been the heartbeat of our rise under Smith. Add to that Martinez, Cash, Targett, Luiz, Watkins etc, ‘when’ Gerrard takes over, he needs to quickly realise what he’s got in terms  of players who get the club and as you say Dave just tinker with it…..the fabled DM in January perhaps.

The Greasy one made one of those decisions that must have looked appealing to him at the time but the ripples from it cause damage that cannot ever be undone. Absolute tosser of the highest order.

Agree with the article...though that doesn't mean my blood's not still angried up.

I seem to be one of the few on here who likes Gerrard (I'll forgive the Phil Collins incident as it appears to be a one-off), but I just don't see him fitting in at Villa. Would prefer that to Martinez though - if you think our defence is playng badly now .....

If it is Gerrard its a gamble for both.
If he screws up, then that would kick the (supposed) Liverpool job to row Z.
