I think are plans afoot for the right back position. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an upgrade on Cash either.

Which is great as thats the perfect way to build a solid squad.

He was back up Right Back. This is the way to go about improving us, by replacing or at the least someone challenging for first choice.

ManUtd deemed him surplus to requirements a few years ago, and I guess where we're aiming, he's now surplus for us too.

I'm glad he got to do what he did for us and with us.

As others have said, we must have a plan for right back. Oh well.

Ash goes with his Villa legacy totally redeemed and then some. He's been the absolute perfect professional and I'm certain he's had a fine influence on the younger lads. I'm so happy he had this second run and that it ended with such good times.

Ash has been a top player for our club over a long period of time. First as a quality winger, then more recently as an astute defender. Not many have made that transition at the highest level and been so successful. He's still as fit as a fiddle and I can see another Premier League club snapping him up very quickly. He'll still be playing into his 40s.

Good luck for the future Ash - except when you play against us of course.

Sorry to see him go - for me in our top 3 performers this season and our best player pre-Emery. Consummate pro.

He was their captain when he left in January and began that season starting games (12 out of 20). Previous season he’d started 28 Premier league games.

I’m really only pointing that out because I like that he ditched them (rather than vice versa) and then won the league.

If they can afford him, surely a no-brainer for Luton?

I wonder if he might hang his boots up now. I can't see him rocking up at the likes of Sheff U or Luton.

Aren’t watford and Luton bitter rivals?

More evidence of a lack of fucking around at the club

Emery just doesn't do sentiment..was ruthless on the Ings decision too and that worked out well for us. Young was so much better in his second season back than his first. Top pro, even in the dark days at the end of Gerrard's regime he was one of the few who kept going to the bitter end. Can see argument for keeping him around especially with the extra Euro games but Emery has made the hard decision.

He's had a very good season all things considered and leaves the club on a high.  Wish him the very best of luck and. thank him for his efforts in both his spells at the club.

The other thing to consider is that while he’s clearly in cracking shape, there will be a natural fall off as he approaches 38 years of age. Plus it denies opportunities for youngsters coming through or plans for new players being acquired. It’s harsh and his leadership and love for Villa will be missed. But Emery is at the helm not the look me in the eye wanker. That’s most important

I adored him during his first spell, and was far more gutted when he left, than when the likes of Barry and Milner fucked off to the oil tramps.

This time he's just been so solid and dependable. Great!

Will be missed. Cheers Ash!
