Surprised, he did more than enough to earn another year in my opinion. We wouldn't have made 7th without him, filled in amazingly when Cash was out.

Debatable, if Cash was fit throughout we might have got further up the table, we'll never know. Even so, Emery is thinking of better than 7th so he needs the players in that position who will be an improvement on Ash.

I had heard he was deemed too old to learn Spanish.

I got the impression on Sunday he was waving goodbye. He's been a wonderful player & professional during both stints. But we're moving on. Wherever he goes he'll do a fine job.

It is a tough one as Emai seemed to like one defensive and one more attacking fullback. So he had Ash as the defensive one when Moreno was playing and seemed to do Cash attacking with Digne more defensive as he did Sunday.

Yup, if AY wasn't around or fit when Cash had his injury, I think we would have seen a lot more of Chambers at right back.

He’s had a great swan song. Some epic performances, solid as a rock and wiley as a fox. I remember him having an epic battle with an on fire Gnonto against Leeds.

Gnonto was asked for his toughest opponent this season:

The defender who put me in the most difficulty was Ashley Young because he was annoying: he kept talking, making himself heard and getting inside my head.

It’s not all about the legs.

Thanks Ash, a terrific servant over both stints at the club.

I think are plans afoot for the right back position. I wouldn't be surprised if it was an upgrade on Cash either.

Thought it was the wrong decision to sign him, but I couldn't have been more wrong, has been superb for us, gotta be one of the best 37 year olds Villa have ever had on our books. Thanks Ash and wish you all the best for your future.

Thanks Ash, he's had a good season and gave his all when called upon but no surprise really as I think Unai will have Improvements lined up for the right back position.

Played his part in the history of this great club. Sad to see him leave, I absolutely loved him first time round and he did nothing to diminish that on his return.

Best of luck, Ash. Welcome back any time.

I think you are right.

Sorry he's not getting another year, but that has to mean an incoming RB.

Young has been great for us since he came back, model professional.

I think he'll get a similar player to Moreno on the right. This will mean he will be able to change his full-backs depending on which side he wants to be most attacking in particular games. Cash meanwhile has been left out of the Polish squad, with the coach saying he was playing the last couple of games with injections - I thought he played very well in these matches. Good luck Ash - you were great.

More evidence of a lack of fucking around at the club
