Sad, but also shows a ruthlessness we’ve not had in my lifetime anyway.

I remember when the rumours of us signing him again started, I was adamant it wasn't something we'd look at as there would be little point. He's proper proven I don't know my arse from my elbow and should never, ever be listened to again.

Sorry to see him go, and all the best!

I thought we would either let him go or keep around but as a third option at right back. He's done great the last couple of years and there should be another Premier League side that can offer him another year.

Ash’s playing time was going to be reduced now that Cash was back fit, and Cash isn’t guaranteed game time going forward as it was likely we would get another RB in. So Ash likely wanted some guarantees or Emery just felt he’d served his purpose and it’s time to move on. Sport can be very cold at times. Ash has given everything to us so it will be sad not to see him again.

Perhaps he might return to Watford? He's been a model professional for us. I wish him well.

He had a great season, outstanding but time waits for no man. What a player and what an influence on other players.

True. It's best we were honest with him and I'd hope he does his badges and returns to work with the kids, he's everything you want in a pro. Absolute top man on so many levels. I was delighted the Holte gave him a special send off on Sunday. There's not many 38 year olds that would have received such an enthusiastic serenade.

Good luck, fella and thanks for everything.

Oof, feels a bit brutal three days after he announced in the ground he wanted to stay, but I also like the fact that we're not remotely sentimental.

Anyway Ash, thanks a million. A true professional who played a big part this year in our huge improvement.

Yep totally agree.

There is room for sentiment and I'm sure Ash understands the decision. His experience would have been great to have in the dressing room but we have to improve and Ash at 37/38 is not going to do that. Maybe there will be a role for him in some other capacity.

I expect as a free, Ash isn't on peanuts so maybe just freeing up some money for other players. It is a shame though as he didn't put a foot wrong in the majority of our games and his outfield shit-housing complemented Emi's.

Well, it doesn't say we didn't or weren't prepared to offer him a new deal.

It might be that an open and honest conversation about next season led to him feeling he'd need to move on.
