Slots into various positions, so a one deal would be a good idea with extra games next season.

I’d have kept him anyway but with a European campaign too now, he’s exactly the sort of person we e need around - mostly because we need depth but also an experienced head will be very useful.

It’s nigh on impossible to look at how he did this season and not extend (I know his age is a factor but even so ….)
Same. I think he could be invaluable to the team and the squad.

Worth it even as an experienced head to bring on to calm things down and see out a game when we need it.

Played more premier league games than Cash this season, if he does get another year he’s more than earned it.

I’m a bit disappointed we didn’t get Milner for similar reasons, both sentimental and as a squad player for the twenty odd extra matches we might have.

They’d set the bar for how to apply yourself in the profession and could transition into coaching if they want it.

If he is with us next year (and I think he's earned it) I'd like him to have a role with coaching at U23as part of it. I think some of the young players could learn a lot from someone who's managed 20 seasons as a senior player and has reinvented himself to do it.

I think he'd have enough on his plate keeping fit and being part of the squad. Let him coach when he hangs his boots up.

Apart from all the other factors that scream out that he deserves a new deal, his experience of European competition would be invaluable.

Aston Villa can confirm that @Youngy18 will be leaving the club upon the expiration of his contract.

Everyone at Aston Villa would like to sincerely thank Ashley for his service to the club and wish him all the very best in his future endeavours.

Bit of a surprise but must mean we're signing someone.

They say that you should never go back but these two years have been a lovely return for him. My Young highlight is probably his assist for Watkins in Gerrard's first fame or his goal vs Forest.

Thanks Ash.

Clinical by the club.

We've obviously got another RB lined up.

Thanks Ash, shame he didn't get the chance for a proper goodbye but also good that we've just let him go so he can move on. I wonder if he'll hang up his boots or go to one of the promoted clubs.

I think Emery wants a top RB and Cash to fight for the position. That would mean Ashley barely getting a look-in at all so I think it's fair enough. The club have enriched him over two spells, we don't owe him anything.
