He's every bit the player I loved first time round. Also keeps the dream alive - I'm only 3 years older than him, so theoretically I might still play for the Villa (if I was much fitter than I am, and wasn't dispraxic as fuck, and wasn't rubbish at football ... but there's still time, right?)

Loving his game management. It's a mixture of experience, nous and shithousery.

in alex ferguson, he learnt from one of the best.

Thought ball he played through for Bailey the other day for 2nd goal was utterly brilliant. Should have been more noise about it

I thought that, as well as the way Bailey let the ball run on before taking a touch.

Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard repeatedly stated how good he was, as did I, Garreth Southgate and some others on here and following Villa who did not have any doubts because his record speaks for itself.

It's great to now see so more people  again recognise one of our best Aston Villa players from the Premier League era.
I'd put him on par with Milner or Barry, and I'm guessing Dublin, Merson, and McGarth came before them in terms of playing to a higher standard in mid to late 30s and certain longevity

Ex-villa Agbonlahor, Richards, Jenas, Lescott, and Joe Cole were not at his level of consistency over course of their careers which is why they aren't achieving on the field stil and are all younger reduced to punditry.

Young, I salute you. He, along with Barry and Milner, are certain members of the Premier League Hall of Fame.
And in the Villa team of Premier league era to me.
I'd even stand by the fact he's better and more impactful than Jack Grealish time at Villa in premier league.

Yes I spotted a little lack of consistency with Jenas.

Yep, not a good game today for him, but then everybody was poor without exception. I just don't know why managers don't make changes earlier when it's clear somebody is getting overrun.

Always the issue with a caretaker though. That's a very tough call to make.
