I've been against his return since his og at Watford on the opening day of last season (which was prematurely harsh I guess), but didn't see much from him during the following months to convince me otherwise.

By all accounts he was immense this evening (I missed the game, looking forward to seeing MOTD) and as someone who is also sceptical about Matty Cash's abilities, I hope Young gets rewarded for today by staying in the team next week.

Cash was poor for the short time he was on. Constantly out of position, and not by bombing forward, just by not picking up their wide players down the left. Much more solid when Young came on.

Definitely, he brought a calm head and no little quality.

Cash has struggled for a while now.

Ashley was excellent today, he kept Foden quiet for the whole of the second half.  Communicated well with the other players around him too. Distribution was good too.

MOTM for me today.

Outpaced Foden in a one on one sprint

Cash was utterly pathetic to get himself booked as he didn't go off the pitch when he was injured!

Ashley Young was immense yesterday and easily the MotM. Cash has been below standard for a while now, so regardless of his injury, Ashley should keep his place.

I'm just shocked how over the years Young has somehow rebranded himself as a fullback. Not in a million years did I think he had the physique or tough tackling mentality to play that role when he was flying down the wing in his first spell with us during the O'Neill years!

Pretty sure he played there for a while with Utd, but guessing his spell at Inter in Serie A helped cement that transition.

Anyway, well played Ashley son - The game changed when you came on! UTV

Say what you like but Ash's education under Fergie showed yesterday. Took the team resistance up a few notches with his total professionalism  dressed as shit housing. The boos from city fans spurned him and on. Whilst he won't play regularly he will be our get out of crap card this season.

Pains me to give Fergie credit for anything, but .... Absolutely!

He hadn't been on the pitch long but his chasing down of De Bruyne, tackle and then pass to our midfield was sublime and set the tone for the rest of the team.

Well done Ashley Young. I was bemused that we ever chose to bring him back, but yesterday he was terrific.

Think it was Van Gaal who first played him at left back, then Mourinho and Solskjaeer both followed suit.  Southgate played him at left wing back at international level.
