I thought he was our best player in the cup. Last December when we got some good early results he was very important too,  mainly through knowing when to play the right pass on the break,  but vital nonetheless.  His leadership skills are miles ahead of the rest of the squad.

He's too old and slow to be anything but a very short term stop gap at right back.

True.

But he still played well on Tuesday so credit where its due.

Exactly and he flew down the wing past a Bolton player delivered a delicious cross. Showed his pace there.
Feel there's some ageism going on!
Should be judged by his performance and not his age.
Experienced is clearly valued by Gerrard and rightly so.
We're lucky to have someone of Ashley Young calibre for what he's achieved in the game.

Let's get Dwight Yorke back up front then.

At Aston Villa before he was PFA Young Player of the Year 2008 was Ash.
Won the league after he left us.
After not in favour Man Utd he became captain.
Only at the last world cup Young but been playing World Cup semi finals and for 3rd/4th place
Won the Italian league only couple years ago.

Anyone else in squad got that pedigree?
Should be given lot more respect here at least Gerrard does.

I was a little surprised that SG picked him on Tuesday to be honest.  He had a decent game but then so would any stand in on our books have a decent game against Bolton and quite fittingly for that match, as far as Villa are concerned, is not Garlic Bread.

That's not the point!

I was more surprises that Augustine, Olsens and Archer didnt feature other than Archers short minutes.

One of the best players we had once he came on, great leadership as always and the tracking back vs De Bruyne was top class

His mobility surprised me not because of his age, but for still moving that quick whilst carrying Foden around in his pocket!
