Looks like it’s ‘everyone turn on Ashley Young day’!

He's Ok as a sub. Had some great games and some poor ones. Has the sort of winning mentality that we need.

I thought his foul on Son at 4-0, prevented us shipping 6/7. It told Spurs to settle for four or get kicked off the pitch. Added bonus it upset the Sky commentator something fierce.

But other than that, Im struggling to remember much about his season.

I think as long as he’s general cover for a various positions, as opposed to being second choice left back I’m fine.

He was mostly rubbish.
Don’t see him as coach at all.

How do we have any idea about his suitability towards a coaching role? If anything he has seemed quite vocal on the bench, does that mean anything? Fuck knows.

He was always part of the leadership team when with England so suggests he has something about him.

I’d give him an extra year, I don’t think anyone decent will want to join as a reserve.

If they are trying to sign another left back, they are probably waiting to see what happens before offering Young something.

He'll be 37 by the time the season kicks off. I hope our squad is in a better place than needing him next season. He mostly wasn't very good.

I agree. He was a shrewd bit of business last summer, providing cover for a few positions at no financial outlay (bar wages). Only ever a short term fix, though, and we're rapidly approaching the end of term & summer holidays.

if we need Ashley Young next season then we've had a poor transfer window.

He's so puny and bully-able. Without his pace, he's got little to offer. Loved him in his first spell, and I'm a sucker for nostalgia but I'm sorry...I want him gone.

Ashley Young being at the club or not in August will in no way have any bearing whatsoever on the level of success of our transfer window.

Not sure I agree. A 36 year old player is never going to be anything other than a stopgap. There's nothing wrong with that - you can't fix every problem at once, and we did IMO the right thing by bringing him in last summer.

However, having identifed the problem we now need to sort it out. There's been a strong consensus that we need a more combative midfielder, a role to be filled by Kamara. It's also been reasonably widely accepted that a central defender who can also play left back would be nice (Bassey, this Italian fellow). Those are the two positions Young has been covering - left back and an option in midfield.

Personally I'd rather have an actual coach on the coaching staff, not a former player with no experience of that.

I'd rather the club spent money on our Percy having a regular match-day column in the programme.
