I don't think there should be any fuss surrounding this one.

I would prefer Young to Elmo, Guilbert, Taylor, etc. in the case that Cash/Targett were unavailable. He knows his way around the grounds and would be a unique influence on our youth and newcomers.

Given the circumstances (ie Young's age, the number of years since he last played for us, the quality of our first choice players in his position, and the length of the likely contract), I think we can see this possible signing purely on its own merits rather than as the signing of a former player.

Considering he'd basically be replacing Neil Taylor, I think I'd take a 40 year old Ashley Young for that job.

RCF's also a big fan of the 40-year-old version.

this would be a really clever signing - cover for both full backs. Experience and a winning mentality. Nothing to criticise here.

Makes complete sense. Very good recruitment if it comes off.

Hope this comes off. It would be great for our young squad to train and play alongside a bloke who's won league titles in England and Italy.

And although it's largely immaterial, a part of me would be quietly emotional at a really good Villa player coming home.

Can't wait til he rocks up for his first Pravda interview in 10 years and who's there to meet him....only his old mucker, Jack Woodward.

And he takes set pieces.

Sorry, canít get excited about a player who was happy to dive and get a penalty against us whilst playing for Manure.
You read my mind. I remember being disgusted with him that day. Especially when you look at the trend for not celebrating a goal against your former club. His lack of respect for us that day was very poor form indeed.
Edit: however with Elmo and Taylor going I do understand the logic behind it.

Footballers don't have any loyalty. Expecting it is just setting yourself up for disappointment as a fan.

It would be a no from me purely because he is thirty five years of age. If he comes I hope he proves me wrong.

Do football clubs have loyalty to players?
