Ashley Young (Goodbye and thank you)
« on: June 16, 2021, 04:39:47 PM »
lots of smoke now emerging on this one. If it finalizes as is expected it would represent an astute piece of business in my opinion. Overall last season he played 44 times for Inter Milan, 26 of which for a side that won Italy’s Serie A by a mile. He’s not done by a long stretch. Like Milner he’s kept himself in superb condition, changed his position successfully which has ultimately prolonged his career that speaks to his overall attitude. Should be come here he will coming to compete for a starting spot which will only make Matt Targett better. Here is a bit from his time in Italy. He still looks really good.

And… he can take free kicks too from what I remember.

Responsible for one of the most incredible moments I’ve ever had as a Villa fan - that last minute winner v Everton when they’d scored a last minute equaliser.

With the departures of Taylor and particularly Elmo it's a canny signing, he can cover both fullback and wing positions and has a fuckton of experience and professionalism to bring to the table.

It's less important than that, but it would also really warm my heart. Hope it happens.

He was one of my favourite players during his first stint mainly because of his work rate. Obviously he had so many other great attributes but he never sat out a shift. He won’t be the same player obviously but what he has lost in pace or energy he will be smart enough to introduce other traits we badly need.

Probably the best kind of cover you can have at a position.  If you don't have a young guy that's looking to break into the first team in the next 2-3 years, then you should have an experienced veteran that can put in professional shifts here and there, that's won a few things and knows what it takes, and can teach all the younger kids all the tricks of the trade.  If he's one of your best players from years past, even better!

A good idea if it happens. An upgrade on Elmo as a utility player at either full back or wide spot.

I wonder what Neil Taylor, currently live on telly, thinks about this!

Ash was our star during his time here and has kept himself in great nick. It's an astute piece of business and a bit romantic. Love and money, what more do you need?

It's a pity we're not in Europe as he'd get a fair bit more game time. As it is, he'll struggle to get ahead of Matt Targett most most of the time.

TV, do you mean he started 26 games and was a sub in the remainder (out of 44) for Inter last season?

Good signing, can play loads of positions, adds depth, adds professionalism and know-how, will inspire our brilliant kids team. Welcome home.

His versatility will guarantee him game time, he won't just be covering left back even if that's his primary position.

I think  he meant to say he 44 games over 2 seasons, of which 26 were last season.
