Booing the national anthem has wound a few up though.

I'm not a fan of GSTQ but I'd just stay silent. Did they also boo 'Abide with Me' as reported?

According to irate Chelsea fans on social media yes they did. This seems to have annoyed a lot of people, but not as much as booing GSTQ.

Because those self-same people have never booed another country's anthem. Perish the thought.

That exact point was made by many people I saw. Some responses were comical - we boo another countryís anthem, everybody does it ( they donít), you boo your own countryís anthem.

Sorry if this has been answered, but I don't understand: why did Liverpool boo? I didn't bother watching the game (thankfully), so not sure what happened or why.

With the possible exception of Newcastle, I donít think any other club has such sanctimonious supporters as Liverpool.

To me it's a rejection of the establishment from the supporters of a club based in a City that is predominantly left leaning, was earmarked for "managed decline" in the 80's  as the Tories laid waste to heavy industry across the country. This club saw 97 of it's supporters unlawfully killed yet successive governments refused for decades to even acknowledge this and still no one has really been held accountable. I can't say I blame them either, blind, unquestioning patriotism makes me very uncomfortable. They've been singing "fuck the Tories" for quite some time so it's a natural progression.

I have no idea why they booed Abide With Me though unless they mistook it for the NA at first.

Some Chelsea fans on social media this morning are giving it a good shot.  Their outrage at the booing of the National Anthem should of course be viewed through the prism of the links they have with fans of Rangers and Linfield and their perverted "Britishness".

As Steve Beauchampe put it in Off The Ball (paraphrased), "I booed their national anthem, not out of any sense of jingoism, but because it's rubbish. And I booed ours, because that's rubbish as well. After all, if you boo rubbish players, why not boo rubbish anthems? Although I suppose taken to its logical conclusion that would mean booing the pie hut and the programme sellers."

Didn't look particularly soft to me, I'd be fuming if we didn't get that. The fact is was that lump Barnes makes it funny.

The Burnley lad was about 2 feet away, how was he supposed to get out of the way?

By the current interpretation of handball, that is a handball.

The current interpretatiion, though, is absolute nonsense. As Risso said, how on earth are you meant to get out of the way at that proximity?
