Poor Jack hooked after 65 minutes he really doesnít like it does he.

He doesn't mind for his new club. It's just his "boyhood club thar he loves" that he shows  lack of respect for when subbed.

How Alan Smith gave the MOTM to Sterling I'll never know, I'll never know Silva was the best player on the pitch, by some distance.

Maybe by buying Grealish it gave a few of their stars at timely kick up the arse. There was talk when signing Grealish they would sell Silva now he's already being claimed in the press as having pretty much won the PL Player of the Season Award. He is a bit special mind. Even Sterling is living up to the hype of the summer with England.

I don't get the mentality of buying a player to totally change their game, particularly  at that level. Guardiola is undoubtedly egotistical enough to believe he'd improve Grealish, but to do that he's had to force him to do a job he clearly isn't that great at. Some players it works for (wingers becoming defenders etc) but come on, Grealish was never going to go from mercurial ball carrier to having three hundred one-touch interactions per game.

If I was a betting man, I'd say the sole reason they bought him is because they wanted a marquee signing. 100%. There was a record they could break, and that was worth more than the player in PR.

He cuts a lonely figure to me, his game was never going to be suited to their methodology, with the Villa he was pandered too and given the whole pitch to express his talent with City he just becomes another cog in a team of robots.

I'm not convinced by that. If that was their sole purpose then they would have signed Kane instead (a player that would have actually added a different dimension).

Alternatively they signed him to weaken the ďcompetitionĒ. This has happened to us enough times in the past for me to think thereís some resonance. As others have pointed out we lost Barry, Milner, Young etc and it could be argued that the big 6 (puke) constantly see Villa as one of those clubs that could break the cartel and pick off players as and when they can to weaken us. However, theyíll be a tipping point when that wonít work.

Totally this. I thought he looked decent enough keeping things ticking over, but looked incapable of doing what Silva is doing. From Cityís point of view, does his job I guess.

Grealish is an intuitive player.  What he does comes naturally to him.  He does not have much of a brain but it does not matter when he is making it up as he goes.  It works and it is great to watch.  Once he is given orders how and where to play he loses his unique talent and becomes part of the machine.  He longs to be adored at City the way he was with us but it is never going to happen.  Like so many players before him he has traded the chance of immortality for the pleasures of reading his bank statements.

I think it was more for glory than the bank statements, to be fair as we allegedly matched MCityís offer, but agree with all other points.

I think not being the big man isn't working for Grealish.

I don't think benching him against the big teams is working for Grealish. Then again, he is probably 4th choice in his favoured position.
he's had a knock recently - and he's being played like a false 9 - a few things going against him at the moment

Like joining the wrong club. I guess it's the price you pay for picking up medals. Well that and 68 minutes at Vicarage Road on a cold, December night.
yep - it's up to him to make it work.
I think thatís the biggest issue - this is the wrong club for him.  It doesnít suit his strengths.  Heís also lost what made him special - he was special cos he was different in so many ways.  Now heís just a shit Phil Foden.  Which isnít an insult - but there trying to make him be something heís not really.

Heís an amazing footballer - but itís like benteke - we played to his strengths and Man City donít need just like Liverpool didnít

So it will be judged as a failure because thatís the binary world we live in - at a 100million you need to either be amazing or the narrative heís failed

The analagy with Benteke is bang on the money. Why buy a player just to kill thier natural game.

I'm going right off Pep as I am realising his ego outweighs his hype.

Dare I say I'm feeling a little sad for Jack as the ame is witnessing the destruction of a great talent

I get the point about suppression of his natural capability and it appears Guardiola is hell bent on turning him into something he's not but watching him in that team one thing is clear, Jack lacks the absolute precision that players like Silva and dr Bruyne and dare I say Foden possess. To be truly world class he needs to develop that.

It's always been the case with this transfer that he was worth far more to us than he was to them. Realistically there was only going to be one club who would meet the release clause and they didn't need him but bought him anyway. I don't think this was necessarily their prime motivation but I think there is something to be said that during the Euros he was arguably the highest profile footballer in the country. His popularity was sky rocketing and I think Citeh probably thought they could do with a bit of that.

Kudos to Harrogate Town for making the FAC 3rd round. Drawing Villa at Wetherby Road would be absolutely amazing!
