Boxing Day fixtures are arranged to be as localised as possible, so a northern club will never play a southern club.

Last day of the season, the so called big '6' never play each other.

Clubs will never start the season or finish the season with 2 home games or with 2 away games.

The first two aren't true and the third rarely happens.

I remember us kicking off the season with two local derbies in two consecutive seasons when we played at home to Albion in the first game in 1983 and at home to Coventry in the first game in 1984.

Be interesting to see what sort of reception JWP gets on his return to his old club.

Checking the Premier League website, the third one is true and it also says the computer will try and minimise travel on Boxing Day. Regarding the second one, there is nothing in black and white, but I can't remember the last time that happened and I always take a point at looking at the last day fixtures.

Insider knowledge, believe me.

I didn't realise the Boxing Day thing; it's not like they give a toss about travelling at other times of the season.

My memory isn’t the best but I certainly remember going to Swansea on a Boxing Day fairly recently. That’s another country, let alone not local.

The problem with our geographical position is that what's local for one club is a bugger of a journey for us. We could well have been Swansea's nearest.

Man Utd at home

3-1 win to set up a 4th place finish, league cup win and FA Cup semi finalists, repeat of my first season supporting us

We can but dream

That was my favourite ever season. But can we win the FA Cup please?

Yes Richard, let’s go one better than Sir Brian’s team.

That was my first season supporting us and there has been nothing like it since, we had Euro 96 that summer too so it was football heaven.

We played them on new year's a few years back. Took the missus as we were visiting her folks. 2 each, I think. Late equaliser, but most vivid recollection was the not a penalty handball down their end.

They try to arrange local games where possible, but won't arrange local derbies on Boxing Day. That means Swansea has to play a Midlands side which, I think, they always did every Boxing Day when they were up.

Similarly we sometimes play Norwich on Boxing Day, as there is no "local" alternative.
