I believe the logic is the extra revenue from the European competition means the 85% becomes about 70% given the bigger income.  Probably stacks with CL money but will cause issues for teams qualifying for the Conference League.

Thanks DL that makes a lot of sense. Cue people actively trying not to win the League Cup or finish 7th or 8th.

Do transfers fees register as ‘revenue’ as far as the financial rules are concerned ?

Yes. As Percy Mc never tires of pointing out player trading is the unseen turnover pillar in terms of SCR.

Yes but they’re spread over three sets of accounts (calendar years/financial years/actual football seasons - can’t remember).

Hmmmmmm - AI seems to think differently….

No, transfer fees received for Premier League players do not count as revenue on a club's income statement; instead, they are recorded as a profit (or loss) on the disposal of an asset. How Transfer Fees Are Accounted ForAsset Treatment: Players are treated as intangible assets on the balance sheet.Amortization: The purchase cost of a player is spread evenly over the length of their contract.Book Value: The remaining unamortized cost is the player's current accounting value.Profit/Loss Calculation: Profit is calculated by subtracting the player's remaining book value from the sale price.Profit on Disposal: This resulting profit is listed separately from regular football revenue (like tickets, TV rights, and sponsorships).

There’s a guy on Twitter who’s pretty good with his psr analysis. Posts a lot about Villa although is actually an Arsenal fan.  Downside is he’s really quite Brexity when posting stuff outside of football.

Anyway, his latest analysis is pasted below:

So one of the things, I've been asked in the last 24hrs is "How much headroom does Villa have left now?."

Villa's (#avfc) spending isn't capped by cash, it's capped by UEFA's List A settlement and squad cost rules...

After selling:

Rogers £117m
Tielemans £35m
Digne £10m

And signing:

Estupinan £12.5m
Joao Gomes £38m
Manzambi £59.5m

Villa have significantly improved their UEFA position.

The key point is that UEFA measures SCR (wages + amortisation), not just transfer fees.

Based on the current business, Villa look to have enough headroom for roughly another £15m to £25m in annual squad costs.

That translates to roughly £75-£125m in further transfer fees on typical 5 year deals before the Sept 1st deadline, assuming no unusually high wages.

If another high earner leaves i.e. (Emi Martinez, Bailey, Konsa) that figure could rise even further.

The narrative that Villa "can't spend" (which every irresponsible journo and 2-BOB ******, clickbaiting YouTuber peddles) doesn't match how UEFA's rules actually work.

MY ASSESSMENT:

Villa's 2026 transfer window looks like exactly what UEFA wanted to see.

 Significant player trading profits✅
 Lower wage bill✅
 Lower amortisation costs✅
 Improved Squad Cost Ratio✅
 Positive net transfer position✅

The transfers themselves are no longer the biggest question.

The key is Villa's next set of audited accounts. If they show the club is comfortably within UEFA's FER and SCR thresholds, there is a strong case for the CFCB (Club Financial Control Body) to lift the settlement restrictions before their scheduled end.

From where things stand today, Villa look much closer to leaving the UEFA settlement than they did 12 months ago.

I reckon Villa (#avfc) will probably buy one maybe two marquee signings i.e. £30-60m (region) + 2 loans.

I can't see them not taking advantage of the way this window has worked financially so they can leave the UEFA settlement agreement early and for those who read my report from almost 5 months ago, you'll know that this is what I believed the plan would be albeit not necessarily with Rogers leaving.

That’s all very positive a good read.
It doesn’t mention the Dobbin deal nor Malen, Barry or any other outgoings.

So, do they not count ? Are the timings different ? Or does he just not know what’s really happening ?

Dobbin won’t, as he’s mostly referring to the UEFA squad list settlement. I’d have to go through his posts to check re Malen, but he’s usually very thorough.

For anyone who wants to follow his user name is Book of Aegis, but be warned about my comments re his non football posts.

I suspect that in a year or two, Villa fans will still be moaning about “the rules” because as has been the case since NSWE arrived, we’ll be pushing hard against the very limit of what we’re allowed to spend. And dismissing stuff like this:

2018/19 £54.3m
2019/20 £112.6m
2020/21 £207m
2021/22 £211m
2022/23 £244m
2023/24 £310m
2024/25 £378m

You always post stuff like this as if the rules aren't benefiting our competitors. Sure, those numbers mean we can spend, within limits, but we have just had to sell a star player and twatty teams will continue being able to spend far more. Not even based on current sporting merit but because they were better than us decades ago, happened to win the lottery at the right time or play in London. The system is still bollocks.

I hope we continue punching above our weights despite the ridiculous rules.

I don’t. I hope we begin punching our actual weight as the biggest club in the second biggest city in the richest football economy on earth, with no rivals of the same size within an 80-mile radius.

Much as we’d like to, we can’t base the rules of the league on what benefits a minority of its clubs.

"Rivals" within 80 miles don't matter. We have six rivals in London and the North-West and the rules are set up so that they have an unfair advantage over us every season for the rest of time unless the rules are torn down.
