My responses have clearly not been serious.  But what I would say - is we have had 1 summer under Unai where we seem to not be overly effected and we signed Torres, Diaby and Youri - since then we have been robbing peter to pay paul - and its not gone as well.  I think with fewer restrictions we would be looking to challange for the league next season.

Also - I dont think that anyone is suggesting remove the rules - but just make them more applicable to clubs on field performance so they can build on success, or react to failure

El Gouna no longer on the Villa website.

I've no idea what this means.

We've breached the rules 2 years running and benefited from doing so by winning a European trophy and qualifying for the CL. All the other clubs that we saw off in the Europa that followed the rules probably view us as cheating wankers.

It is an Egyptian Resort Town.

In some ways its good that there gone - as if I had seen that funny astrixs thing once more it would have convinced me to move there.

Well just have to win the Europa Super League then say UEFA can keep the money to put towards the fine.

I’m with Percy here, the only way we compete without sanction is to continually grow revenue until we get below the 70% or they change the rules. The club is doing everything it can to raise revenue in commercial, Matchday and Unai being a fucking genius along with NSWE bunging in money left right and centre. We will get there but it means patience not something us Football supporters are generally blessed with.

We’ve got a trophy in the cabinet, things are generally positive so UEFA and their fines and sanctions really isn’t stopping us carrying on doing what we’re doing. With a big slug of CL money this autumn I reckon 2026 compliance figures will look really good.

Anyway back to the Football.

I dont think anyone follows the rules.  Clubs clearly do what they do and if its compliant than so much the better.

Hmm - this sounds a bit of an issue -

"Villa will also face a restriction on the registration of new players on their squad list for the Champions League next season."

It’s the same issue as it was this year. We’ll need a net positive of the squad salaries (I think). Martinez and Rogers will go, so there’ll be a bit of room. But ultimately means we’ll likely have to buy worse players or take a few gambles.

For the first time in ages I think Rogers will stay - unless he basically wins England the world cup.

Looks like we want a British record fee - and not sure any one will fork that out

If somehow we can get the fringe players off the books it would help hugely.

So last season it ended up being:

Martinez
Bizot
Cash
Lindelof
Konsa
Mings
Digne
Torres
Garcia
Maatsen
McGinn
Tielemans
Sancho
Luiz
Onana
Elliott
Buendia
Watkins
Rogers
Bailey
Abraham

Room for manoeuvre?

Assuming the registration restriction is the same as last year then I think this starts to become a serious issue. We managed to achieve something remarkable last year, but it’s not going to be sustainable. We need to get out of this cycle.

Plenty without immediately deciding to sell your two best players and be contrary to all the briefing the club has done via NS to client journalists.

Elliot, Bailey, Luiz, Mings, Sancho, Garcia open up 6 spots and signficant wages. We could make 3 signings tomorrow and have £350k wages to offer and be compliant.
