Ha.  For some reason SEs ramble made me think of this.

Yes, I agree, we do need to keep growing the ground. The North is a big test, as everything is still on a knifes edge, we need to see it being maxed out to make further expansion look viable.

Capacity is one thing, we also need to make Villa Park more adaptable and suitable for alternative uses.  Monopolise that market - stadium gigs/boxing/Rugby etc - in the Midlands and we can grow income.

Spurs made £55m from 16-events last year and the council have agreed to extend it to 30 events in the future, about £100m.

And that is because it's in London, something we are powerless to do anything about.
Yes, we can host events but to think we can match the Capital is folly. See also Heath S.

Absolutely and we've seen our owners do just that which has only been stymied by the desire to redevelop.

We'll do it again I'm sure but there is a limit.

I think they do need to look at these England game events judging by the poor turnout in this video;

Nowhere near how many were there for the only Villa match I saw there, the first leg against Forest.

They have to learn to market this properly as they have to get non-Villa fans into events, too.

The input of equity by our owners is an interesting twist.

Not sure if this has been posted before, but as the Faily Heil piece has been lauded, this guy is the best explainer of FFP/SCR in my opinion. Not sure why the podcasters don’t have him on. Maybe he just wants to do his own stuff:

Definitely agree with that. I’ve enjoyed all his stuff.

As for Collomoose I read the article as you know and watched his podcast but there wasn’t anything new or insightful IMHO. Just a statement of pretty basic facts. Although maybe I’m becoming an anorak on all this stuff.

Yeah, it was all very basic, but a few buzzwords like optimistic & light at the end of seem to excite Bardell, who is pretty clueless on this stuff. He spends most of his broadcasting hours finding new ways to say ‘it ay fair’ then drools over someone who says we can get out of it by raising revenues and pumping in equity.

Spare a thought for the lovely Newcastle fans who must be headed en masse to the Tyne bridge. While we are continually affected and impacted by FFP/SCR we do so with the greatest manager in the world at our helm. They are selling off players and have to do so with Eddie Howe.

Indeed, I almost feel sorry for them.  Urgh wash my mouth out with soap!

Just reported in the DT

Newcastle United have been fined €6m (£5.17m) for breaching Uefa’s financial sustainability rules.

The fine, which is less than both Aston Villa and Chelsea have had to pay in recent years for similar breaches, has been negotiated with Uefa’s Club Financial Control Body (CFCB).

It underlines the financial difficulties Newcastle face as they look to close the revenue gap on the traditional big six and explains why David Hopkinson, the chief executive, has said it is important they trade players effectively.

Despite the fine, which also comes with a suspended €7m fine (£6.03m) in case of further breaches, Newcastle sources are adamant it does not mean they have to sell any of their leading players this summer.

A statement from the club said: “Newcastle United has entered into a settlement agreement with Uea following a breach of its Financial Sustainability Regulations in the three-year period ending June 2025.
